SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego events this week will resume as planned in the face of the county's increased precautions surrounding the coronavirus.County leaders cautioned the public Thursday to practice common-sense actions to protect themselves from not only coronavirus but the current flu season as well, as several large-scale events are set to headline the weekend.This week, other major events in the U.S. were outright canceled over coronavirus concerns, including South by Southwest spring festival in Austin and Miami's Calle Ocho and Ultra music festivals. The special event will take place every weekend until SeaWorld can fully open. The park's attractions will be very limited, with guests able to enjoy all outdoor animals exhibits and shows."We’re opening as an accredited zoo and you can come in and enjoy all the live animal presentations we’re world famous for like the Orca Encounter, dolphins, Sea Lions Live and all the outdoor exhibits that people love and miss," said SeaWorld Park President Marilyn Hannes..Among closed signs for indoor exhibits, game rooms and rides, guests will also notice dozens of sanitizer stations, distance markers and download codes for digital park maps spread throughout.Visitors will also be able to continue enjoying the tide pool areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego's outbreak of hepatitis A appears to be slowing after more than two months, county health officials said Tuesday.San Diego County has topped 100,000 hepatitis A vaccinations, the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency announced. In a presentation to the county Board of Supervisors, health officials said there had been a downward trend in new cases over the past 11 weeks, with only two new cases added since the last report.RELATED: Downtown businesses take steps to fight Hepatitis A outbreakThe board also extended the region's health emergency, as it has been required to do every two weeks since the first declaration on Sept. 1.As of Nov. 8, there have been 546 cases hepatitis A, requiring 369 hospitalizations and resulting in 20 deaths. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — St. Augustine High School, an all-boys Catholic school in North Park, has filed a lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state officials to allow the school to reopen for in-person instruction.The school says that after holding its summer school and athletic programs in-person for more than 400 students without any reports of COVID-19 cases, they are seeking to stop the state's enforcement against in-person classes during the pandemic this fall."At Saints, we don’t believe remote learning is sufficient to provide a quality education our students are entitled to and our families have come to expect," said Principal James Horne. "We are confident we can open our school safely, consistent with CDC and San Diego County health guidance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- State lawmakers approved funding to hire an additional 230 employees for California DMVs. The decision comes on the same day they shut down a proposal to audit long wait times at offices throughout the state. DMV officials say they've seen a surge in demand at offices from people getting the new REAL ID License, which you can't do by mail or online. State Assemblymember Phil Ting is spearheading an effort to shorten the wait. He says wait times at some offices were up to seven hours. "We've identified some technological fixes so that people can enter the information," said Ting. "There would be less clerical work."In July, lawmakers added an extra million to the DMV budget. The extra funding would allow them to hire 500 more employees, offer Saturday services and upgrades to some self-service kiosks. Assemblymember Ting got onboard when he had to go to the DMV in San Francisco and saw the line wrapped around the block. "It looked like people were waiting in line for a rock concert," said Ting. "Not for their driver's license."He says another problem was that people were waiting too long to renew.  "People couldn't get appointments before their licenses were expiring," said Ting. "We're asking to send those notices out much further in advance."DMV officials are also rolling out new programs like text message notifications and expanding self-service terminals to 50 grocery stores later this year. Drivers who want to get a REAL ID would still have to go into an office. DMV officials say you can expect to see reduced wait times by the middle of September, but they don't expect what they call "reasonable" wait times until December.
