SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A body washed ashore in Ocean Beach early Monday morning a few hours after a man was seen diving off the Ocean Beach Pier.At about 1 a.m., someone called 911 to report seeing a man jumping off the OB Pier into the ocean. A witness said the man was seen on his back being pulled out to sea.When authorities arrived, they found the man's belongings on the pier but could not locate him in the water. Lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel launched a search, but the man was nowhere to be found.Shortly after 4 a.m., authorities responded to the discovery of a body on the beach nearby. Authorities said it was too soon to determine if the body is that of the man who dove off the pier. 708
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Clairemont man convicted of stabbing his mother to death was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison Friday.Joseph Robert Burks, 31, was convicted in June of first-degree murder in the July 24, 2017, slaying of his 58-year-old mother, Angela Burks, who was a longtime Otay Ranch High School science teacher.Police say Burks used a stun gun to incapacitate his mother, before stabbing her more than 20 times in the head, neck, and throat at the home they shared.RELATED: 499
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver escaped serious injury after falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing his pickup truck on state Route 52 in the Kearny Mesa area.The crash happened at around 11:45 p.m. Thursday on the eastbound side of SR-52 near the transition to Interstate 805, the California Highway Patrol said.ABC 10News learned a man was driving his work truck when he fell asleep, leading his vehicle to roll over several times across freeway lanes before coming to rest on the right shoulder.The driver was able to crawl out of the wreckage and was evaluated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene. He was not taken to the hospital.No other injuries or crashes related to the incident were reported. 723
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Carmel Valley family who moved from Parkland, Florida is upset after learning two Parkland victims died of apparent suicides.Erin George says these suicides in her hometown are re-opening old wounds. It has her wondering how many more lives will be lost due to the senseless tragedy. She said, “I was numb. I just thought when does the loss of life stop from this.”Erin’s daughter Lauren lost a friend in the shootings. She worries about the emotional impact the shootings will have on her daughter.Suicide prevention experts say the best thing you can do is look for warning signs and talk to your teenagers. Simply ask them if they have thought about suicide. They say the best time to talk about it is when they are not depressed. Warning signs include a drastic change in behavior or withdrawing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A female driver struck a home in Point Loma Wednesday morning.The BMW went into the house at 3145 Nimitz Blvd. at Evergreen Street.The driver didn't see the turn and went through a guard rail, into the house, police said.A man and woman were sleeping inside.The man and the female driver suffered minor injuries.Police said the crash was not alcohol or drug-related. 393
