SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Business leaders in Solana Beach are calling on the city government for more help as they try to recover from the coronavirus pandemic and its ensuing economic fallout.On June 10, the City Council agreed to set aside 0,000 of CARES Act funding to distribute as grant money to businesses with 25 or fewer employees.While business owners 10News spoke to say they're grateful for any help they can get, some feel it's not enough."We have 1,000 to 1,200 small businesses here in the city that would qualify," says Chamber of Commerce Co-President Ron Blumberg. "So, you do the math."City officials haven't decided how they'll divvy up the money, or what businesses will have to do to apply. They also haven't said how many businesses would receive the grants.But if the money is given out equally, or even pro-rated based on size, it would only amount to a few hundred dollars per business. Blumberg says he'd like to see the city combine that money with other business-friendly moves.Blumberg thinks the city could waive permit fees and restrictions to allow all businesses to expand to their sidewalks. He says they could also remove parking restrictions."Anything that the City can do, to allow businesses to do business under these really crazy circumstances," says Blumberg.The City Council says they're looking into options and has allowed restaurants to add seating on the sidewalks. But in their last council meeting, they decided not to close portions of Cedros Avenue to traffic, which would have allowed businesses in the popular design district to expand even more.Other business owners say they'd like the local government to play more of an advocate role, marketing the city and bringing awareness of what has reopened. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said this week he is in favor of passing another round of economic stimulus for Americans, but suggested the funds be targeted to a smaller number of Americans.McConnell told reporters on Monday that the next round of stimulus funds should cover Americans making less than ,000 per year, which is far lower than the threshold for stimulus funds during the last round of aid, which many Americans received in April and May.Congress is currently on recess, but is expected to begin discussions on another round of aid when it reconvenes July 20.In May, House Democrats approved a stimulus plan, which included ,200 checks for those making less than ,000 a year. The House's bill has yet to be considered by the Senate, which had a few Democratic priorities the GOP are standing firmly against – funds for states to count mail-in ballots in the fall and a lack of liability protection for companies.Both McConnell and President Donald Trump have stated support for a second round of stimulus. SOMER, Wis. -- A couple from the Village of Somers, Wisconsin was forced to leave their home because of erosion.The house is teetering on the ground above Lake Michigan.Tom and Marge Lindgren were sitting in their kitchen last weekend when they heard a loud crash. "I heard a crash and jumped up. I looked out and the porch went crashing down.I ran up packed a bag and my wife packed a bag and we grabbed the dog and got outta here," said Lindgren. Shoreline erosion along Lake Michigan has been a problem for decades.Some homeowners invest in heavy rock barricades to fight the high waves.Lindgren received a 0,000 estimate to stabilize the bluff, but it's a price he can’t pay."I lived here as a kid. I went to school here. It's gone. I've still got to find a new place to stay," said Lindgren.Lindgren has talked to officials with the Village of Somers. Another is an apartment he owns in Trump Tower in New York, which is at risk of foreclosure, the prosecutors said.The prosecutors also noted that Manafort has "questioned his ability to maintain the payments on all his mortgages" and that members of his family aren't "willing to assume the risk" of helping him.Manafort earned a judge's approval to be released from house arrest two months ago, if he showed proper documentation and could secure a million bail with assets and properties.
