WASHINGTON, July 27 (Xinhua) -- The China-U.S. Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED), the first of its kind between the world's biggest developing country and biggest developed country, opened here on Monday.     On behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao and invited by U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and State Councilor Dai Bingguo participated in the opening ceremony in Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington, D.C..     In a congratulatory message to the opening ceremony of the dialogue read by Wang, Chinese President Hu Jintao said that both China and the United States shoulder important responsibilities on a host of major issues concerning peace and development of mankind.     As two countries with significant influence in the world, China and the United States also enjoy extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation, Hu said.     China and the United States, in the face of the complex and changing international economic and political situation, should endeavor to expand common ground, reduce differences, enhance mutual trust and strengthen cooperation through the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, he said. DAMASCUS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said Thursday that Syria is willing to enhance cooperation with China on the basis of mutual benefits.     Moallem made the pledge during a meeting with Wu Sike, China's Special Envoy to the Middle East, and both sides discussed bilateral relations and the latest situation in the Middle East region.     Wu reiterated that China supports Syria's commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the relevant UN resolutions. However, we need to make efforts to develop bilateral relations further through political, economic and cultural cooperation and coordination in the international arenas," Wu added.     Wu Sike arrived in Damascus on Thursday. As the special representative of the Chinese Foreign Minister, he had visited Algeria and Qatar before reaching Syria.

BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin has called for deep recognition of the historic necessity and enormous advantages of China's political system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     The natural difference between the political systems of China and the West must be deeply recognized, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau at Thursday's meeting of the presidium of the CPPCC National Committee. Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who is also a member of the standing committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, presides over the 17th chairpersons meeting of the 11th National Committee of CPPCC in Beijing, China, on Aug. 27, 2009    Jia remarked these while making arrangements for the celebration of the 60th founding anniversaries of both the People's Republic of China and the CPPCC.
