A federal court judge in California on Monday ordered the US government to make immediate changes to how it treats undocumented immigrant children it has placed in secure facilities.The court's orders ranged from very specific demands, such as to get informed consent or a court order before giving children psychotropic medications at the Shiloh Treatment Center in Texas, to sweeping orders requiring the government to stop imposing conditions that have led to months of delays before it releases minors to parents or relatives.CNN previously reported on the wide-ranging abuses at Shiloh and other facilities described by children in sworn declaration in the case that led to Monday's order. A golfer in Colorado is recovering after being gored by an elk over the weekend, splitting one of his kidneys.Zak Bornhoft was at Evergreen Golf Course about an hour west of Denver on Saturday evening. He and his friends saw dozens of elk near the course and thought they would be safe if they kept their distance, according to reports.He tells local media the large elk charged at him while he sat in a golf cart near the 17th hole. The person driving the cart brought him to the clubhouse to get help.The Elk’s antler sliced his left kidney in two. Bornhoft was rushed to the hospital, and treated in the ICU. He is reportedly making a good recovery.Elk are allowed to roam freely in the area of the course, and wildlife officials say attacks on golfers are rare. 773

A child had just moments to escape a carjacking when a thief jumped in the vehicle and sped off from a Detroit gas station, police say. According to Detroit Police, the female driver went inside the store to pay for gas. A Catholic priest was beaten while praying at his church in Merrillville, Indiana, and authorities are investigating the attack as a hate crime.The Rev. Basil John Hutsko told police he was attacked Monday morning inside the St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church as he was praying in the sacristy.The attacker "grabbed him by the neck, threw him down on the floor and immediately started slamming his head against the floor. Both sides, front and back," Merrillville Police Chief Joseph Petruch told CNN affiliate WBBM.The assailant left Hutsko battered, bruised and unconscious. And during the assault the attacker yelled, "'This is for all the little kids,'" Petruch said.It was an apparent reference to the clergy sex abuse scandal that has rocked the Catholic Church in recent years.
