SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Local San Diego County attractions announced Sunday that they will close as a stay-at-home order takes effect in Southern California. The restrictions for the region begin at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.SeaWorld announced a temporary closure beginning December 7. The closure will remain until the region’s zoos are allowed to reopen, the amusement park said.“During this time, our veterinarians and animal care experts will continue to provide the animals that call SeaWorld San Diego home the same high level of care," SeaWorld said in a statement. "Our animal rescue and rehabilitation operations will also continue to conduct their important work that is a hallmark of our company."RELATED STORIESCounty urges San Diegans to heed new health orders as COVID-19 cases surge'The rules are changing once again' Mayor Kevin Faulconer responds to Newsom's new shutdownsSan Diego restaurant workers dread latest shutdownThe San Diego Zoo, San Diego Zoo Safari Park, and Birch Aquarium also announced closures starting December 7.“We continue to have essential and dedicated staff on grounds at both parks, ensuring that the wildlife in our care continue to thrive. The urgent nature of our work to save species is unchanged, even in the face of this pandemic. Species will continue to disappear from the planet at an accelerated rate if we do not remain steadfast in fulfilling our mission. We keep at the forefront of our thoughts the well-being of these dedicated employees and the many volunteers who make our parks such special places to visit. We look forward to the day we get to welcome our guests back,” the zoo said.LEGOLAND California has not officially announced closing, but the park's website has changed the last day of its holiday event from Jan. 10 to Sunday, Dec. 6. The USS Midway Museum also closed to visitors on Sunday. The news comes as the region fell below the 15% ICU threshold, triggering the restrictions. The State Department of Public Health said the entire Southern California Region, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Imperial, Inyo, Mono, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties fell to 10.3% ICU capacity on Sunday. 2211

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many residents living in and around the polluted Tijuana River Valley expressed frustration this week with a plan to use taxpayer money to fund a campground instead of working on a fix to the raw sewage pouring over the border from Mexico into San Diego County. California Senate Bill 507 was signed by Governor Jerry Brown last month and allotted .5 million towards a campground and only 0,000 to study potential fixes to the sewage.“It seems like it’s the bastard child of San Diego and it just sucks.  It’s not fair,” said Ginger Sacco of the Citizens Against Sewage group.Sacco told 10News they were under the impression the bill, which was backed by Senator Ben Hueso and Assemblyman Todd Gloria, would be used to fight the sewage problem.  Instead, Sacco said they only learned last week most of the money would fund a campground backed by San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox.“I can’t imagine people in their right mind wanting to camp down here knowing all the sewage and toxins that have been coming through here,” said Sacco.A spokesman for Supervisor Cox emailed 10News a statement:“The .1 million comes from a 1988 State park bond act that was specifically designated by the voters for the purchase of land to expand the Tijuana River Valley Regional Park. At this time, after the purchase more than 1,800 acres, there are no additional lands necessary for inclusion to the Regional Park, therefore, we sought State legislation to slightly shift those park funds for the creation of the park and open space amenities.0,000 of that money was allocated to study potential fixes to the sewage spills on the U.S. side….County taxpayer money designated by the voters for a County park is not the proper funding source for an international water pollution prevention and treatment project costing hundreds of millions of dollars.”A spokeswoman for Senator Hueso said she issued news releases that mentioned the campground element.  Sacco said the residents never saw or heard about the campground until recently. An SB 507 promotional YouTube video featuring Assemblyman Gloria focused heavily on the sewage damage but doesn’t mention the campground.  His spokesman sent 10News a statement:“Assemblymember Gloria has been and remains committed to exploring solutions that will stop the pollution in the Tijuana River Valley. The purpose of the video was to highlight the State’s commitment to funding a feasibility study for the development of infrastructure on the U.S. side of the border. As mentioned in the video…this bill starts us on a path toward a long-term solution. It is worth noting that without SB 507, the State would not be funding a feasibility study. In fact, none of this money would be coming to the Tijuana River Valley.” 2807

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Just days before masses of people are expected to descend on Del Mar for the San Diego County Fair, a busy road has reopened following a bluff collapse. City crews completed a retaining wall and reopened Jimmy Durante Boulevard Wednesday afternoon. The road wasn't originally expected to reopen until June 4, several days after the fair opens on May 31. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lifeguards say two people were rescued from a trail in the Blacks Beach area on Sunday in separate incidents. The first involved a woman who injured her ankle, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The woman was about half-way down before being injured. Lifeguards put her on a stretcher and used ropes to lower her down to the beach. She was taken by lifeguards to meet paramedics. The second occurred on the same trail, involving a woman suffering from heat exhaustion. She was unable to make it down the rest of the trail, requiring lifeguards to hoist her to the beach below to get her to paramedics.Lifeguards said with Labor Day weekend approaching and a heatwave expected next weekend, they are reminding visitors to local trails to know their limits, wear proper footwear for uneven beach terrain, and make sure they have plenty of water.Beach lifeguards say they don't expect to see crowds slow down anytime soon. 945

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Kristi's a full-time 5th grade teacher and her sister, Heather, is the director of compliance and relations at San Diego State, Heather also runs a small tattoo removal business on the side. When COVID came around, the sisters added even more to their plate."We're both born entrepreneurs and always are thinking about solutions," says Heather. While Heather was creating a COVID training guide for her employees as her small business prepared to reopen, the sisters stumbled upon an idea that could help small business owners navigate some of their own challenges."We started brainstorming and began to go through pieces, did the research and provided a training for her employees and thought,'oh my gosh, if she needs this everyone's going to need this,'" Kristi recalled. That's when Small Business Employee Training was born. Their safety course takes in-depth COVID-19 information, along with CDC guidelines and regulations, and transforms it all into a 30-minute safety course for employees. "In the state of COVID, there was a lot of fear and anxiety around going back to work. How does that happen, what are the requirements," Kristi said.Since the course have became available, over 300 employees have taken the course through their employers."The goal is an employee would enter the workplace, go through a training, and understand what COVID is and how to keep themselves and other safe in the workplace."The course is only and employees receive a certificate of completion afterwards. 1526
