(KGTV) -- California State Parks officials worked quickly to protect centuries-old pictographs created inside sandstone caves from being destroyed in the fast-moving Cave Fire.The Chumash art, created by the Chumash Native Americans between 500 to nearly 1000 years ago, was covered by heat resistant tarps, a California State Parks ranger told KSBY.Chumash Painted Cave State Historic Park is one of the few remaining spaces that allow the public open access for viewing the rock art. Six people are dead after two floatplanes carrying cruise ship passengers collided in flight near Ketchikan, Alaska, on Monday, the US Coast Guard said.The Alaska State Troopers identified the deceased passengers as Simon Bodie, 56, of Tempe, New South Wales, Australia; Cassandra Webb, 62, of St. Louis, Missouri; Ryan Wilk, 39, of Utah; Louis Botha, 46, of San Diego, California; and Elsa Wilk, 37, of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Randy Sullivan, a 46-year-old pilot from Ketchikan also died.The Coast Guard, which is leading the investigation, said 10 people were rescued following the collision between a Beaver floatplane and an Otter floatplane.The Coast Guard had initially announced the death of four people on Monday, as authorities searched for two others who were missing.The bodies of the missing individuals were located Tuesday night, raising the death toll to six, the Coast Guard said.Floatplanes are aircrafts with pontoons or floats that allow them to land on water.The passengers on both planes were guests on a Princess Cruises ship -- the Royal Princess -- which is on a seven-day trip. There were 14 Americans, one Canadian and one Australian on board the two planes, according to the Coast Guard.The Royal Princess' voyage originated in Vancouver, British Columbia, over the weekend and is scheduled to end Saturday in Anchorage, Alaska, the company said. Part of the voyage, the company's website said, included "scenic glacier viewing" with stops at Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.The passengers on each planeThe two planes collided around 1 p.m. (5 p.m. ET). The Otter plane, operated by Taquan Air, a regional airline based in Ketchikan, was flying a shore excursion with 10 passengers and a pilot aboard. One of those passengers died, Princess Cruises said.Ten people from the aircraft were transported to the hospital. As of Tuesday night, three had been discharged. A 67-year-old man remains in serious condition, but is improving, a hospital spokeswoman said.The second plane was carrying four passengers and a pilot on an independent tour, the cruise line said. It was operated by Mountain Air Service, NTSB board member Jennifer Homendy said. You know, I feel that this industry can be as as the public, or social consumption of alcohol.”But these businesses are operating in a bit of a gray area, and it’s not always a smooth ride. "There was a misunderstanding a little over a year ago with the city of Denver, where we had some of our guests and our guides, ticketed, by the city for what they considered to be public consumption,” said Eymer.While pot is legal to possess, sell and consume across the state of Colorado, you still can’t smoke it in public.That became an issue last year, when a Colorado cannabis tours bus got pulled over by Denver police."We do have rules though, where you can legally consume marijuana and where you legally cannot consume marijuana," said Eric Escudero, a spokesperson for the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses.That’s just one of the hurdles different states are facing with the legalization of medical pot.“When the first slate of licenses were granted, it did not include social consumption or delivery,” said Shanel Lindsay who founded Ardent Cannabis.Lindsay is trying to make sure they don’t have the same kind of hiccups in Massachusetts.“I think it’s really important for states, when they’re, when they’re making these laws to make sure there’s a clear pathway for social consumption and delivery, when they’re writing the law," said Lindsay.Massachusetts voted to legalize recreational pot in 2016.The first stores to sell it didn’t open until last year, and the state is still working on the rules for cannabis consumption businesses.“We’ve always had private or underground social consumption events and you definitely still see people running social consumption events in a private way.
