CINCINNATI, Ohio — A dozen people connected to various moving companies were indicted in Ohio.The United States Attorney's Office in Cincinnati unsealed an indictment Tuesday that charged the people with conspiring in a racketeering enterprise to defraud customers through their moving companies.WMAR television station in Baltimore, Maryland has reported extensively on the activities of the moving companies. CLEVELAND, Ohio - Like any other case, President Donald Trump’s positive COVID-19 test will set into motion a series of events designed to determine who the president might have been in close contact with. That investigation—called contact tracing—is considered by many experts to be one of the best ways of handling new outbreaks and potential COVID-19 clusters.President Trump announced early Friday morning that he and the first lady had tested positive for the virus. The president had been in Cleveland earlier in the week for the first presidential debate. The incubation period for COVID-19 is anywhere between two to 14 days, although in many cases the period is between three to five days. It remains unclear where and how President Trump was infected with the virus.Members of the small crowd that attended the debate in person were required to be tested for the virus. Anyone with a positive test was not allowed inside.In typical cases, once a person has tested positive for the virus, contact tracers—which act almost like disease detectives—will ask the patient a series of questions about their activities prior to the positive test. Eventually, the contact tracers will work to find out who the patient might have been in close contact with.Generally, close contact is defined as another person who may have been within six feet of the patient for at least 10 minutes. The people identified as close contacts will be alerted by the contact tracers of their possible exposure and risk of infection. All parties are then asked to self-quarantine for at least 14 days.Although the close contacts are not apprised of the identity of the person who tested positive for the virus, sometimes they are not forthcoming with information to contact tracers.“When we call the contacts, you get a variety of responses. Sometimes people hang up, sometimes they cuss us out,” said Romona Brazile of the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.The contact tracers will also ask the close contacts about any possible pre-existing conditions and advise them on how to keep the virus from spreading in their homes. The goal of contact tracing is to determine who might have been exposed in order to keep the virus from spreading uncontrollably.Whether it be SARS, HIV, or Ebola, contact tracing has been used by epidemiologists and virologists for decades. It is considered by many to be one of the best ways to prevent further spread of diseaseThe Cuyahoga County Board of Health has had anywhere from 60 to 75 contact tracers and can activate more as they are needed, officials said. COLFAX, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom defended California's wildfire prevention efforts Wednesday while criticizing the federal government for not doing enough to help protect the state as it enters the height of fire season after two deadly, disastrous years.His jab at Republican President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly criticized California's Democratic leaders for poor forest management, comes a day after Newsom signed a law requiring Trump and other presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns in order to appear on the state's primary ballot.Newsom said 33 of 35 high-priority forest-thinning projects are on pace to be completed on schedule by year's end after he eased environmental laws to speed permits. They are designed to slow the spread of devastating wildfires near more than 200 communities in fire-prone areas by removing brush and smaller trees.The most recent records provided Wednesday by the state's firefighting agency show many of the projects are getting a slow start. Just two of the 35 projects are substantially complete as California enters what CalFire Chief Thom Porter warned could be another damaging fire season that has been slowed by last winter's heavy, lingering snow at higher elevations. Three more projects are at least half done, while the report says two-thirds are less than 20% completed, though some of the status updates are more than a month old.Officials said the bulk of the delays are in getting permits and permission from private landowners. Newsom said one project has required 719 permits despite his effort to cut through the red tape, while another has been slowed by illegal marijuana farms in the area where work is to be done.Clearing and prescribed burning should pick up this fall, Porter said."That's going remarkably well," Newsom said. "It's not perfect but we are making progress."Community leaders seemed understanding of the progress."If 33 of the 35 are going to be done by year's end, that's pretty speedy. The state's project butts up against federal land, however, and Newsom said "there's nothing happening on the other side of that line.""We need a more robust commitment" from the federal government, he said. "We need more support."But while the Democratic governor and Trump differ on policies like the environment and immigration, Newsom said there has been good cooperation with federal agencies when it comes to disasters and violence like Sunday's mass shooting at Northern California's Gilroy Garlic Festival.Newsom said he talked to Trump on Tuesday for the second time in 10 days, though he would not say what they discussed. On Wednesday, hotel guests and the public will be able to use the hotel's new underground parking structure, which features 729 spots. For the next two years, guests will enter the hotel from the north side, as the main entrance is redesigned. The temporary entrance can be accessed from R.H. Dana Pl. The project will cost 0 million, a figure that's double the original estimate."To ensure that the Hotel Del is staying relevant with the times, but also that it's here for another 130 years," said Nick OrRico, the resort manager. OrRico says they've been working diligently to enhance the guest experience while construction is underway. After the popular restaurant Sun Deck closed for construction, the hotel created an alternative eatery on the beach with a food truck. "We are still looking for ways to build unique experiences for guests, so they still want to come over here and experience our beautiful beach," said OrRico. Holiday traditions will continue despite renovations, including Skating by the Sea, which kicks off this Friday.For Thanksgiving, the Hotel Del is expecting close to 3,000 guests for dinner in the Crown Room and Ball Room, plus more in the restaurants.On Christmas Eve, they'll serve 500 guests in the Crown Room.
