Do you have an iPhone? There's a lot of confusion these days over its COVID-19 tracking feature. Some people want it, some don't, and a lot of us are just plain confused.Yes, it's true: Apple's iOS 13.5 update over the summer added a COVID tracking feature to your iPhone. But that doesn't mean the government is spying on you, according to both Apple and reports in the tech blogs ZDNet and 9 to 5 Mac.You will need to activate the system with help from a local health department. You can find it by going Settings > Privacy > Health.Once in Health, look for COVID-19 exposure logging. It explains that an "authorized app is required" to turn the feature on. (9 to 5 Mac has more detailed instructions)Is Apple secretly tracking you?But from the doesn't that stink file, fears that Apple is secretly tracking you for exposure to the coronavirus.First of all, if your location services are "on," your phone keeps a record of everywhere you have been. That is not new, and has been an issue for years. But there is no truth to rumors that Apple -- or the government -- is checking to see if you are near people infected with the coronavirus. You have to turn the feature on for that to happen. And people with the virus would have to turn on the feature too.No smartphone can simply sniff out the virus out of the air. If so, they could warn us if we are near someone infected (now THAT would be a great feature).Bottom line: No one is tracking your iPhone for COVID exposure, unless you want them to.As always, don't waste your money.______________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. Do you get your car washed at one of those automatic washes? Would you go as often if you heard about collisions and damage happening inside?Mark Crotty of Arizona took his new car through a Super Star Car Wash. He says while in the wash, a car two cars ahead somehow came off the rollers. Crotty said the truck in front of him stopped, which caused his car to be sandwiched with the truck and a big SUV from behind. He said that SUV pushed him about 15 feet through the rest of the wash. Crotty says Super Star Car Wash took no responsibility for the damage caused. He ended up paying hundreds to repair damage to his bumpers.Jennifer Chahoud also had damage to her new car. She also said it happened inside a Super Star Car Wash.Chahoud says cars suddenly stopped in front of her and her car was hit. She said for weeks, Super Star claimed they were not responsible.Chahoud said only after complaining to the Better Business Bureau that they paid for repairs to her car.Jake Morrissey says it happened to him too.He said his car was in neutral and his hands were off the steering wheel as all drivers are asked to do. Then his car collided with a car in front and back of him.He said Super Star claimed no responsibility and said it was not their equipment. Instead, he says the car wash blamed another driver.Morrissey said Super Star gave him the driver's name and location and told him to take it up with her. He approached her, but said she denied knowing anything about it and threatened to call the police. He sued, and Super Star blamed this other driver.Morrissey lost and still hasn't had his damage repaired, and he now questions why cars are put on the conveyor belt so closely.Morrissey added he wonders why there aren't sensors that immediately stop the line when there's an issue.JR Ruelas of Super Star Car Wash said these collisions are very rare. He said when they happen, they are usually the fault of the driver.Ruelas said drivers put on their brakes or move the steering wheel taking them off the track. He says in the above cases, the car wash equipment was not the problem. He defended the practice of giving drivers information of other drivers to seek reimbursement. He said Super Star does take responsibility when they are at fault, but couldn't give exact numbers.Ruelas said there are sensors on the conveyor line, but they are not in the middle, where many of these collisions happen.Crotty, Chahoud and Morrissey all said their damage was not their fault, and ask how could it be when they have no control over their car's movement? And they say, they were just stuck. All three of them demanded that Super Star give them a video of their incidents from cameras inside. If you have similar issues, or your car is damaged in another way, make sure to get that video. Also, keep all receipts, file a police report, get damage estimates and push the car wash to reimburse you for the damage. If they don't, you could consider taking them to small claims court. 3076

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Plans for a new high school in El Cajon are facing opposition from neighbors.Literacy First Charter Schools wants to relocate their high school from its Lemon Grove location to a new spot near the intersection of Jamacha Blvd. and Chase Street. They bought an 8-acre plot of land five years ago on which they hope to build.Plans for the school call for a two-story building. It will have 22 classrooms, athletic fields, a 161-spot parking lot, and room for up to 450 students and 33 teachers.Officials with the Literacy First system say the old school is too small and too far away for their growing needs. They believe the new location will help them serve more families, and keep their current families from leaving after 8th grade."We hope it becomes what every one of our schools is," says Executive Director Debbie Beyer. "We hope it becomes a model for what great schools can be."But neighbors in the Rancho San Diego area worry that it will bring more traffic and congestion to an area that already has problems along Jamacha Boulevard."It's just incredible out here on Jamacha," says Veronica McGowan, who lives a block away. "People go about 50 miles an hour, and they're anxious to get in and out of these side streets. If you're turning right, you're safe, but if you're turning left, it could take a while."Social media posts on neighborhood Facebook groups raise concerns about delays at the intersection because of the addition of another school. They say nearby Valhalla and Steele Canyon High Schools already make the commute frustrating.Beyer says her school's small size will minimize the impact, as many students won't be driving. She adds the charter school system is ready to do their part to improve the roads and mitigate the traffic along both Chase and Jamacha."We have to add another lane. We're adding turning lanes. We're widening the street. We're adding sidewalks," she says. "We're paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to improve that intersection."She also says they're looking into staggering the start times, so not all grades begin at the same time, and having different start times from the other schools in the neighborhood. As for the complaint that the area already has enough schools, Beyer believes families will welcome another option."We let the market bear everything that there is when it comes to business and commerce and entrepreneurship," she says. "Why can't we do that in education? Why don't parents have a choice?"Beyer and Literacy First presented environmental review plans for the new school to the Valle Del Oro Community Planning Group last week. They hope to bring those same plans to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors this spring. There's still no official timeline for when they hope to start construction or open the new campus. 2833

El Cajon Police continue to search for a wanted suspect while an officer recovers from being dragged down a road by a car. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old David Pangilinan of Guam. A journalist in Guam said as soon as the news hit on the island that Pangilinan was wanted, everyone instantly recognized the suspect.Related: El Cajon police ID suspect who dragged officer with car“His picture was there and I recognized him right away. He’s a school mate of mine back in elementary and middle school,” said Troy Torres. “Mr. Pangilinan’s family is very well known, a very nice family that has built up businesses a lot over the years, has contributed a lot to the community so his name does stand out,” he said, saying most people on the small island have heard of the family so this news has sparked attention across the island.A press release from El Cajon police said Pangilinan is the suspect in a case that started when an officer stopped to check on an SUV parked illegally and blocking traffic on Washington Avenue in El Cajon. He found a sleeping man and woman inside the car that was later determined to be a rental. The male driver of the car first tried to give false identification then started to put it into gear, so the officer tried to stop him. The officer got trapped in the car and was dragged down the road, then hit by another car. The SUV drove away and was deserted nearby, with the man and woman nowhere to be found. They are still on the loose and El Cajon police are asking for the public to report any information on their whereabouts. The officer is in critical condition as of Monday.A police officer in Guam said they’re on high alert and would know if he tried to return to the island because everyone who lands at the airport in Guam is required to go to a mandatory quarantine facility for six days. Every person is documented before they can leave, so Guam authorities would know if Pangilinan tried to return home.Anyone with information on this incident or the driver and/or passenger is urged to call El Cajon police at 619-579-3311 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 2134
