SANYA, Hainan, March 21 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official said here Sunday more efforts should be made to further integrate tourism and culture so as to achieve greater development of the industries.Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at the 2010 Boao International Tourism Forum in Sanya, a tourist resort in south China's Hainan Province.Global tourism was experiencing drastic adjustment along with the world economy's profound changes, while connections between tourism and culture had been increasing, he said.Integrated development of the two industries was an inevitable demand of the times when economic development came to a certain level, which offered huge potential for the tourism industry, said Liu.It was important to stick to opening-up and cooperation in promoting the tourism and culture industries, Liu said."The Chinese government has made the decision to build Hainan into an international tourism island, which demands more efforts to further expand opening-up and explore integration of tourism and culture, making Hainan a key platform for economic cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries," Liu said. The two-day forum, under the theme of "transformation of tourism and cultural industries in the aftermath of the global economic crisis," attracted delegates from more than 50 countries and regions, as well as executives of world tourism organizations such as the United Nations World Tourism Organization and the World Travel and Tourism Council.

BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese central and local governments have poured money into the building of a national cultural information and resources sharing network, deemed as the base for the country's public cultural service system, the Ministry of Culture said Monday. The central government has planned to invest 2.476 billion yuan (362.6 million U.S. dollars) in the project during the country's 11th five-year (2006-2010) plan, among which 2.07 billion yuan (303 million U.S. dollars) has been allocated so far, according to the ministry. The total investment from local governments has reached 2.7 billion yuan (395 million U.S. dollars). One national service center has been established, along with 33 provincial-level centers and nearly 3,000 county-level branch centers, according to the ministry.Initiated in 2002, the project was committed to digitizing domestic cultural resources and sharing them nationwide via Internet, satellite transmission and discs.Vice Minister of Culture Zhou Heping said Monday that the project has made new progress as local governments kept innovating in ways of transmission. The project has extended to a population of 50 million people, according to Zhou. The ministry on Monday also launched a promotion scheme of county-level digital libraries, aiming at transmitting resources from the National Digital Library to nationwide county-level libraries via the cultural information and resources sharing network. The plan would be implemented in 320 counties ahead of the two-week-away Spring Festival, while by the end of this year, a total of 2,940 counties across the country would have libraries with digital library services, the ministry said.

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China restated on Sunday its resolute opposition to claims that the government was involved in cyber attack and vowed to enhance cooperation with international community to fight against Internet crimes."Accusation that the Chinese government participated in cyber attack, either in an explicit or inexplicit way, is groundless and aims to denigrate China. We firmly opposed to that," spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology told Xinhua in an exclusive interview on Sunday."China's policy on Internet safety is transparent and consistent," he said.Internet security was a global concern which required international coordinated efforts. China was willing to deepen cooperation with other countries and learn from their experiences to make Internet a better place, he said. The spokesman's remarks came nearly two weeks after search engine giant Google said it might quit China citing disagreements with government policies and unidentified attacks targeting Google's services in China."China is the biggest victim country of hacking as its Internet has long been facing severe threats of hacker and online virus attacks," the spokesman said.Official data showed more than one million IP addresses were under control by overseas sources and the number of Web sites tampered by hackers exceeded 42,000 last year. The widespread Conficker worm virus infected 18 million computers per month in 2009, the most in the world, or 30 percent of the global total infected.According to the Internet Society of China, the number of cyber attacks from abroad saw a year-on-year increase of 148 percent in 2008.They not only affected a large number of netizens but also sectors of finance, transportation and energy, which posed severe harm to economic development and people's lives, the spokesman said.He noted the Chinese government had issued various regulations and launched many Internet safety campaigns against the attacks. The National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team dealt with more than 1,000 Web accidents in 2009 and helped recover economic losses for many banks and E-business Web sites.China has also taken part in the Internet safety emergency drill organized by the ASEAN countries for many times, and signed cooperation pacts with member countries of regional organizations in Asia.

ZHOUSHAN, Zhejiang Province, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Maritime police authorities in Shanghai and the eastern China provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang launched a joint anti-terror exercise Saturday in the run-up to the Shanghai World Expo.Seven naval vessels joined the maneuver, which was held in the waters off the Zhoushan Islands in Zhejiang Province, said Qian Junmin, a senior officer with the maritime police force in Jiangsu Province. He did not say how many officers joined the exercise, which focused on shooting and other practices.Shanghai, which sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River on the East China Sea, has a coastline of more than 600 km with busy water traffic. For security considerations, the sea off Shanghai will be patrolled by armed boats and motorboats during the Expo, scheduled from May 1 to Oct. 31.
