Other's have taken notice of his positivity and have decided to help out. That is why when Garcia arrived home he was shocked to find out he was the recipient of a brand new car. A Las Vegas family watched in horror from a Florida hotel room as their home was broken into Friday. From 2,000 miles away, Kenneth Kochman woke up to a heart-stopping notification on his phone."We got our Ring camera system up and we actually saw these guys burglarize our home live," says Kochman. From their hotel room in Orlando, Kenneth and his fiancée Melinda Piccirilli watched in disbelief as two men walked around the backyard of their home. The video clearly shows one of the burglars using a rod to knock down the surveillance camera just before breaking in.The family was concerned that the crooks were inside and may have harmed their three Chihuahuas."I knew they were trapped in a little area so if they wanted to get them or take them, or [possibly] get mad at them, take them or hurt them; you don't know what people are going to do," Piccirilli said. The two got back to Las Vegas on Sunday – thankful to find their dogs unharmed. Melinda immediately jumped on social media to spread the word of what happened. Her Facebook post quickly went viral in her Las Vegas community."Last night it was 40,000 views and just a few minutes ago it was 65,000 views," says Piccirilli.Melinda said the response online from folks in Summerlin, a subsection of Las Vegas, truly shows how a community can come together."The community is all here with us and wants to help us find who these people were," says Piccirilli. "[There are] Hundreds and hundreds of strangers, hundreds of shares and people tagging people asking how they can help."Las Vegas police are currently investigating the burglary. 1609

A former assistant manager of a Michigan PetSmart has filed a lawsuit in which he claims he was fired for enforcing a store rule and a state-wide mandate requiring customers to wear a mask.Alex Brothers says he called police on July 19 when he saw a customer without a mask at the chain's store in Midland. According to Brothers' attorney, Jennifer McManus, the maskless customer was carrying a gun while shopping in the store."Because the man was openly carrying a weapon, my client decided the smartest course of action was to contact law enforcement about the fact the man was not wearing a mask, as required under the governor's executive order," McManus said.Midland police escorted the man from the store without incident. Two days later, PetSmart fired Brothers, who had worked at the store since 2015 and reportedly had an "excellent" performance record."He was told, 'Well, we know you feel really strongly about this mask issue,' and that was said during the termination meeting," McManus said.Michigan is one of many states that have adopted mandates requiring masks in public. But enforcement of those mandates often falls to retail or restaurant employees — and there have been several incidents in Michigan where such confrontations have ended in violence. In July, a dispute over masks led to a police-involved shooting near Lansing, Michigan. Two months earlier, a woman in nearby Macomb County, Michigan, was accused of attacking a worker after refusing to wear a mask. Also in May, 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn was shot in the head after asking a family to put on masks before entering a Family Dollar in Flint, Michigan.McManus said those headlines were at the top of her mind when she heard about Brothers' case."Terminating your employee for trying to do their job in these unprecedented times is really unconscionable," McManus said. "It's an untenable position where these employees are choosing between their safety and their paychecks."Brothers is suing PetSmart for wrongful termination."Not only was Alex enforcing the governor's executive order, but he was attempting to enforce the store's own policy," McManus said. When asked for comment about the case, PetSmart said the store does not comment on pending litigation. This story was originally published by WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan. 2318

A man picking up passersby flagging him and his buggy down for a ride is calling his service "Amish Uber."The service is not affiliated with the actual Uber ride-sharing service, but it has been popular in the town of Colon, Michigan, where driver Timothy Hochstedler is using a horse and buggy to cart folks around.Hochstedler has a sign on his buggy that says each ride is and he was offering rides during the town's recent  81st annual Abbott's Magic Get Together festival.WWMT television station talked with people who paid for rises in the buggy, and they said the experience was unique and fun. 626

A California district attorney has charged two people with hate crimes after they attempted to paint over a "Black Lives Matter" street mural in a Bay Area town over the weekend.Nicole Anderson, 42, and David Nelson, 53, of Martinez, California, each face three charges, including violation of civil rights, according to the Office of Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton.According to the DA, video taken over the weekend shows Anderson and Nelson using paint rollers to try and black out a large, yellow "Black Lives Matter" mural in downtown Martinez. In the video, which was shared widely on social media, a man appearing to be Nelson was wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap and a Trump campaign shirt that read "Four More Years.""The narrative of police brutality, the narrative of oppression, the narrative of racism, it's a lie," the man said."Keep this [expletive] in New York. This is not happening in my town," a woman, allegedly Anderson, said in the video. In addition to charges of civil rights violations, Anderson and Nelson also face charges of vandalism under 0 and possession of tools to commit vandalism or graffiti. They face a maximum of up to a year in jail if convicted."We must address the root and byproduct of systemic racism in our country," Becton, the District Attorney, said in a statement. "The Black Lives Matter movement is an important civil rights cause that deserves all of our attention. The mural completed last weekend was a peaceful and powerful way to communicate the importance of Black lives in Contra Costa County and the country. We must continue to elevate discussions and actually listen to one another in an effort to heal our community and country."Last month, following massive protests against police brutality and systemic racism, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser commissioned that a large, yellow, Black Lives Matter mural be painted on a street near the White House. Dozens of other cities have since followed suit and created their own Black Lives Matter street murals.New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced plans to paint a similar mural on Fifth Avenue outside of Trump Tower. President Donald Trump later called the proposed mural a "symbol of hate." Work on the project was scheduled to begin last week but has been delayed. 2324
