SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Foreign ambassadors from around the world made their way to San Diego to visit the border and see how the US handles security Monday. Rolling down a gravel road, at the US-Mexico border, a van carried several foreign ambassadors to the US. The group, part of more than 30, came to San Diego for the State Department’s “Experience America Program.” Monday’s stop – a 14-mile stretch of newly constructed primary and secondary border wall just east of Otay Mesa. As the ambassadors approached, work was being done in the hope of finishing the project by January. “Today we’ve been told how you are protecting the US-Mexico border,” said Javlon Vahobov, Uzbekistan Ambassador to the United States.Like the Uzbekistan Ambassador, this is their first time to California. Border issues top of mind in his home country. “For a country that is located in the heart of central Asia, and surrounded by all 5 central Asian countries- including Afghanistan.”Agents describing how they protect the border, from the construction of the walls, to agents and technology. “Struggling with smuggling of narcotics, fighting trafficking persons. Those issues that have been shared today are very accurate, accurate for the region, for Uzbekistan itself,” said Vahobov. The border trip is just part of the diplomats’ visit to San Diego. “Tunnels are being digged and drugs transported and that’s a real threat for American people I think,” said Andris Teikmanis, Ambassador of Latvia to the United States.Teikmanis said he was also anxious to hear more about innovation taking place in San Diego. “Learning about biotechnology, and university and different kinds of businesses and culture present here in San Diego.” 1723

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For three days, faith organizations from across the country will be in Point Loma for the San Diego National Church Safety & Security Conference hosted by Rock Church.The conference has been held for the last nine years and aims to help churches, synagogues and mosques become safer by providing tips and tools to better prepare for attacks, like mass shootings.Several topics will be discussed including how to work with law enforcement, incident reporting, emergency evacuations and more.There are also many vendors on hand, offering products and services which include surveillance systems, background checking and first aid supply kits.Organizers hope attendees will take away three main points. “Do something, don’t just do nothing. A lot of churches have anything in place, ” said Rock Church safety director Mike Diggs, who spent 20 years in law enforcement. “The other thing is, we want you to learn how to keep children safe at your establishment,” he continued. “And the third is to prepare for a critical incident, active shooter situation, natural disaster.”The event goes on until Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Extended construction work next to Friars Road has drivers wondering when the Mission Valley street will be back to normal.What is normally a four-lane road is now two, as SANDAG completes an million project. Crews are taking out a bridge with one track on it and replacing it with three bridges and four tracks. Two tracks will serve the Coaster and heavy freight trains. The other tracks are for the blue line trolley to La Jolla. “Every day that I have to pass this, it's just an eyesore,” said Katherine Whitley, who has spent two years driving through construction. “It clogs traffic. Everybody knows Friars Road has grown and grown and this isn't the right place for this to be.”RELATED: Gas main break prompts SR-163 closure in Mission ValleyBicyclists are also concerned about construction danger.“The cars going that way are passing me going 55 miles an hour about three feet away from me. So it feels pretty sketchy,” said Greg Zackowski.SANDAG said it is doing everything it can to minimize the impact of construction. The equipment can’t be put in the San Diego River because of the environmental impact. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Disney officials say they do not believe Disneyland or California Adventure parks will reopen before 2021.During an earnings call on Thursday, Disney Chief Financial Officer Christine McCarthy said the Anaheim theme park will likely remain close through the end of the fiscal first quarter, which ends in late December."While some of our parks are open with limited capacity, we currently anticipate Disneyland resort will remain closed at least through the end of the fiscal first quarter," McCarthy said.RELATED: San Diego County businesses sue amid rollback in reopening restrictionsMcCarthy added that the company does not have any indication of how long restrictions on theme parks will last.California introduced reopening guidelines for small and large theme parks in October. Small theme parks with a capacity of less than 15,000 visitors can reopen in the state's moderate (orange) tier while large parks like Disneyland can reopen in the minimal (yellow) tier.Orange County is currently in the red tier and would need to post two weeks of orange tier data to move forward. The county would need to do the same to move into the yellow tier.
