CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that happened Saturday night on Telegraph Canyon Road. Surveillance at a nearby business captured the accident."Of course it was scary watching the video, right in front of our workplace here, it is scary," said Hector Ruiz, a Chula Vista real estate agent.At around 8:25 p.m., a man is seen crossing the road outside of a crosswalk. He makes it past the eastbound lanes but is then hit by a car traveling west.The driver remained on scene after the crash and has been investigating with officers. The driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol; no charges are expected to be filed against him. Ruiz says he is constantly worried about speeding along that stretch of Telegraph Canyon Road.Chula Vista Police say they welcome tips from the public regarding dangerous roads or places where drivers tend to speed. They can bring speed trailers to those areas to determine if there is a speeding problem. 1028

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Parents in Chula Vista are horrified after finding out that dozens of children are taking part in what is being called an after-school fight club. Alain Tripp has lived across the street from Bonita Vista Middle School for more than a decade. Once the bell rings, he sees students walk along the canyon trail to go home. But lately, he has been noticing something else. “Every so often I see a group of 15-20 kids. They’ll be standing there and fighting,” Tripp said.Tripp is not the only one who has seen fighting just off campus.Other neighbors said they had witnessed dozens of kids running down the trail on minimum-day Fridays, to participate in organized fights at Discovery Park. One Bonita Vista Middle School student’s mother sent 10News a photo of what appears to be many students scattering after one of the so-called fights. Parents said the students then upload fight videos onto a secret Instagram account, seeking internet fame.“They just see a lot of people who are Youtube famous… A famous Youtuber popping up in their heads and stuff,” Tripp said. “I feel like every year, kids are trying to grow up faster.”Some neighbors told 10News that they have tried to stop the alleged fights, but they say these keep happening. Now, the school is stepping in. 10 News got a copy of the letter sent to parents from Bonita Vista Middle School Principal, Teresa Kramer. 1457

Chrissy Teigen opened up about her recent miscarriage in a blog post on Tuesday, describing her emotions in detail and thanking friends, family and fans for their support.In the early hours of Oct. 1, Teigen shared on social media that she had lost her unborn baby due to pregnancy complications. Mothers around the world lauded her post for helping to normalize pregnancy complications — a difficult topic for many women to talk about, despite the fact that the American Pregnancy Association reports that 10% to 25% of known pregnancies end in miscarriage.On Tuesday, Teigen shared more of her experience in a blog post on Medium, titled "Hi."Teigen opened by thanking those who wrote to her following the loss of her child, which she and husband John Legend named Jack."After we first lost Jack, I found myself incredibly worried that I wasn't able to thank everyone for their extreme kindness," Teigen wrote. "Many shared incredible personal experiences, some shared books and poems. I wanted to thank everyone, share our story with each individual person. But I knew I was in no state to. For me, the 'no need to respond' note was such a true relief. I thank you for each and every one of those."She also went into detail about the complications that led to her miscarriage. Teigen said doctors had diagnosed her with a "partial placenta abruption" that led to severe bleeding. She added that she had had "placenta problems" with her two previous pregnancies but had never been diagnosed with an abruption.Teigen also got frank about the side effects of her condition, which included heavy bleeding that required her to wear "adult diapers.""I actually became an adult diaper expert for my own personal entertainment, truly appreciating the brands that went out of their way to not make me feel like an actual (expletive) baby," Teigen wrote. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Chula Vista firefighters quickly put out a fire that started Sunday night near the Teresina Apartments on Santa Cora Avenue. Fire department officials say the call came in at about 9:20 p.m. when a person who lives at the apartments heard noises coming from outside their window. The person who reported the fire told firefighters they saw two kids setting the fire and recording themselves on their cell phones. The witness yelled at them and the kids ran away. The fire burned several trees and got dangerously close to the apartments, forcing the evacuation of one of the buildings. Witnesses tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames while fire crews arrived. A 16-year-old was transported to the hospital for inhaling some of that substance. Chula Vista Fire officials say the incident is possibly related to another fire that broke out on Santa Cora near the same apartments on October 25th. Police are still looking for the two kids responsible, no description was immediately available.  1096

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several Chula Vista elementary schools are working to give students hands-on engineering experience the district says they can take into the job market. On August 1, 2016, a new type of learning burst into being with the start of the Innovation and Energy Station in the Chula Vista Elementary School District. The station helps teach students STEM. The station serves sixth grade students as well as serving as a community lab. In 2018, the lab grew again to include the Energy Station at Saburo Muraoka Elementary School. In August of this year, the program grew yet again to include the Hydro Station, which teaches students about the water industry. The lab begins by helping students identify which careers align with their interests while highlighting jobs in San Diego’s priority sectors. “It was designed to give students the opportunity to learn about their own strengths," Michael Bruder, District engineering teacher told 10News. “The students’ eyes light up when they see the lab space. You get the ‘Wow’ effect. You literally hear the students say ‘Wow!’ as they enter,” Bruder continued. At the Energy Station, students use Minecraft to create an energy efficient home and/or landscape. Students exploring other themes could be testing wind turbines or building circuits. The program also offers students a connection with local employers, giving them the chance to connect their hands-on experience and the region’s in-demand skills. Qualcomm, Microsoft, SDG&E, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association all partner with the program. “I want employers to realize that career education must start before high school,” says Matthew Tessier, assistant superintendent of innovation and instruction at CVESD. “We’d love to partner with more people and expand to every single priority sector.”Click here to learn more about the program. 1950
