ORLANDO, Fla. – Friday, the nation remembers one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history.June 12 is the fourth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, Florida. On that day in 2016, Omar Mateen opened fire inside of the LGBT club, killing a total of 49 people. More than 50 others were injured.Police shot and killed Mateen during the events of that night. In honor of the shooting victims, Gov. On Monday, the 16th anniversary of 9/11, a Fox News commentator wondered if a memorial for victims of the terrorist attack might eventually meet the same fate as statues depicting Confederate generals. In an interview with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, "Fox & Friends" co-host Brian Kilmeade alluded to a memorial for passengers of United Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Zinke was slated to speak."Do you worry that 100 years from now someone is going to take that memorial down like they are trying remake our memorials today?" Kilmeade asked, referring to the recent controversies that have led to the removal of statues for Confederate military leaders like Robert E. Lee. 701

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Authorities arrested a man suspected of shooting the security guard of a news crew that was robbed while covering the Oakland teachers strike, according to a statement by the CBS affiliate.KPIX said a reporter and a photographer were gathering interviews Sunday about the strike at the Oakland Library when a car pulled up and the driver pulled a gun, demanding their camera. The crew surrendered the equipment and began walking away. The suspect then shot the guard, Matt Meredith, in the leg, the news station said. KPIX reporter Joe Vazquez said on Twitter that the guard, a retired Berkeley police officer, exchanged gunfire. An Alameda County Sheriff spokesman says a 21-year-old man with several gunshot wounds walked into a nearby hospital after the incident. Oakland police arrested the man on suspicion of shooting the news crew's guard. The guard's condition wasn't immediately known.Assaults on routine assignments became so common in recent years that some television stations have hired armed guards to ride with news crews. No other information — including what time the robbery took place — was immediately released. It's not the first time the station has been the target of theft. In November 2012, a group of men punched a KPIX cameraman while he was filming in front of an Oakland high school and fled with his camera while it was still recording.Robberies of television news crews and still photographers have plagued the San Francisco Bay Area in recent years. The Associated Press tallied five robberies in 2012, two in 2013, three in 2014 and at least three in 2015 plus several burglaries of vehicles."We don't know what the market is for these cameras," San Francisco Police Sgt. Michael Andraychuk told The Associated Press in 2015. Even though the cameras can cost upward of ,000 each, it is specialized equipment that can't be easily sold on the black market, Andraychuk said, and none of the stolen cameras have turned up on Craigslist, eBay or any other online marketplace. 2031

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The CEO of SeaWorld Entertainment stepped down Monday, just months into his tenure leading the theme park company.Gustavo "Gus" Antorcha resigned from his job as the top executive at SeaWorld as well as his position on the company's board of directors."While I may have a difference of approach, I continue to believe in SeaWorld's strategy, mission, team and prospects," Antorcha said in a statement provided by the Orlando, Florida-based company. Before taking over the helm of SeaWorld in February, Antorcha was a top executive at Carnival Cruise Lines. He succeeded Joel Manby, who unexpectedly departed in 2018 after beginning SeaWorld's pivot away from live animal shows following years of protests and declining attendance.SeaWorld announced the end of its breeding program in March 2016, after years of pressure from animal rights advocates and shifting public opinion about orcas being held in captivity. The protests intensified after the release of the 2013 documentary "Blackfish," which focused on the life of Tilikum, a killer whale responsible for killing trainer Dawn Brancheau when he dragged her into a pool in front of shocked visitors in 2010.The company in the past year, though, has seen a reversal of fortune. Attendance was up 8.6 percent during the 2018 fiscal year, as was revenue. For the first half of this year, attendance was up 1.7 percent."The strategy we have in place is working, and we have made significant progress," said Scott Ross, the chairman of SeaWorld's board of directors. "We look forward to continuing to execute on this strategy and driving a meaningful increase in value for all stakeholders."The company operates 12 theme parks under the SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place brands in California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.SeaWorld Chief Financial Officer Marc Swanson was named interim CEO while an executive search firm looks for a permanent successor. Swanson has been with SeaWorld for 19 years. The company's chief accounting officer, Elizabeth Castro Gulacsy, will serve as interim chief financial officer, company officials said. 2133

Oklahoma teachers will continue their walkout for a sixth day Monday, maintaining their pressure on state legislators for increased education funding. The teachers were granted a pay raise last month but say the state's school facilities, equipment and textbooks are rundown, outdated or in short supply and more spending is needed. At least 58 of the state's 500-plus school districts -- including those in Oklahoma City and Tulsa -- will be closed Monday because of the walkout, CNN affiliate KOCO reported. 515
