ESCONDIDO (KGTV) - Monday morning neighbors posted about a rash of graffiti in Escondido, a block away from Glen View Elementary school, outraged at the content and vandalism.On East Mission Avenue, just past Midway Drive, a home and two power boxes stained with black spray paint. One of the designs looked like a Star of David, causing concern online, worried the vandalism was anti-semitic."I noticed the graffiti over there, and that's just a disgrace," Grandmother Rose Ochoa said as she paused on her daily walk with two grandchildren on their way to pick up another grandchild."I feel disrespected. I feel like there's a lot of hate," Christina Landers said. She's lived in this neighborhood for about 27 years and said the graffiti has spread closer to her home, "it's crazy, it's like they're messing up our side of town.""I mean it's everywhere, you can't walk down a block without seeing it," Ochoa said. She moved to San Diego from Los Angeles and said she loves this neighborhood."I think they're too young to point it out right now," she said referencing her 4-year-old granddaughter and 2-year-old grandson, "and I'm thankful for that, but there's going to come a time that I'll have to explain it to them, and that's going to be hard because I teach them at home do not to write on the walls, do not write on the chairs and then we walk out here and see everything on the walls."One of the tags included what looked like the Star of David, concerning the owner of the home that was tagged."I talked to the guy, and the guy says I don't have any enemies I don't know why they'd do this to me?" Landers said.Around 11 a.m. the Escondido Graffiti Eradication Unit drove up, ready to repaint the walls and electrical boxes."It's very rewarding to be able to give back to a community I've lived in my whole life," City Worker Nate Tunnell said.Both he and his coworker said the work is constant, and thankful neighbors make it worthwhile."We've been fighting them, and it looks like we've been beating them too, so that's always going to put a smile on my face," Tunnell said. "Right on you're doing a good job!" ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - One of the two victims killed in a crash in Escondido Sunday night has been identified as 19-year-old Ana Lira.The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on El Norte Parkway and Ash Street, according to Escondido police.A witness told 10News he believed a Dodge Charger ran a red light and collided with a Ford Mustang in the intersection.Police confirmed one of the cars ran a red light, but they could not confirm which car committed the violation.One person was ejected from the Mustang and landed in the front yard of a nearby home. That person was declared dead at the scene, and another person inside the Mustang was also killed in the crash.The Charger’s driver and another person from the Mustang were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The crash forced police to close El Norte Parkway between Conway Drive and Fig Street. FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- The parents of 10 children rescued from what authorities call years-long abuse are both in jail after their mother was arrested Wednesday.Ina Rogers, 31, was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse. Prosecutors say she caused the children to be in a situation that was likely to produce great bodily injury and death.Her husband, Jonathan Allen, is facing charges that include torture and felony child abuse. He is being held on .2 million bail.Prosecutors said the children, who range in age from 4 months to 12 years, were waterboarded, shot with crossbows and had scalding-hot water poured on them.Sheriff’s officials and prosecutors say the children were rescued from the filthy home on March 31 after suffering puncture wounds, burns, bruises and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun.RELATED: 10 children living in 'squalid and unsafe conditions' removed from California home  Solano County chief deputy district attorney Sharon Henry said the children were tortured “for sadistic purposes.”Court records show that Allen was also charged with four felonies in 2011 that include corporal injury, assault with a firearm and criminal threats in a case involving his wife.He pleaded no contest as part of a deal and was sentenced to 180 days and three years of probation. 1342

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - City leaders in Encinitas plan to ban gas-powered leaf blowers to help curb the effects of climate change.They're hosting a public meeting about the ban Monday night, May 13, at 6 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center (1140 Oakcrest Park Drive).The ban is part of the City's bigger Climate Action Plan, which the City Council approved in January of 2018. It calls for a 41 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 when compared to 2012 baseline levels.The plan says removing emissions from gas-powered leaf blowers would remove 142 Metric Tons of CO2 by 2030. That's the equivalent of taking roughly 25 cars off the road.While it's not a huge improvement, people in Encinitas say every small step will help."I think they ought to be eliminated everywhere," says David Winkler, who goes to Encinitas to meet friends. "The less reliance on fossil fuels, the better.""People come from all over the world here, so we should make it as clean and beautiful as we can," says Encinitas resident Linda, who declined to give her last name. "Anything we can do to lessen pollution is always a good thing."Other North County cities already have bans in place. Solana Beach and Del Mar both prohibit the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.City leaders in Encinitas say their rule is different because it bases the ban on environmental concerns, rather than noise pollution.The ban only covers two-stroke leaf blowers. Other gas-powered tools like weed whackers and chain saws will still be allowed.If the ban is approved, it will take effect immediately for all city-run operations. After three months, any business licensed to operate in Encinitas will have to comply. ESCONDIDO (KGTV) – An Escondido couple is out thousands of dollars after falling for a sophisticated truck scam“You hear about it everywhere, but you’re like it’s not going to happen to me,” Terha Newby said.   Terha and her husband, Chris, found the perfect truck for sale on Craigslist back in September. Someone from El Monte was selling a Chevy Silverado 2600 HD for about ,000. “The registration matches the pink slip, the VIN, everything. You’re like, 'Its good!'” Terha said.  But it was far from good.It turns out the truck was stolen out of Orange County last year. Afterwards, someone replaced the VINs on the truck with a duplicate VIN of a truck that someone owns in Texas. They even had matching paperwork to go with it. But the VINs set off an alarm for the DMV when the Newbys went to get their new truck registered.“The VIN that was in the vehicle belonged to truck in Texas, and it was on a lien,” Terha said. “These guys are professionals, they’re out there, and that’s all they do for a living.”Chris said the seller gave them a Carfax report, but it was a fake one. He now regrets not getting their own. “From now on, for a fee, Carfax would have prevented it,” Chris said.The stolen Silverado was impounded and went back to the insurance company of the truck’s original owner.
