They're all sold at Claire's, a store with products aimed toward girls and young women.“It's completely unacceptable to have asbestos in these products,” Katz says. “Asbestos if you inhale it or ingested it can lead to lung cancer it can lead to mesothelioma, which is cancer of the internal organs, and if you apply it over skin over time it can also increase the risk of skin cancer."Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in talc, a common product in many makeup products. But Katz says it's a company's responsibility to make sure the talc it uses hasn't been contaminated.“We need Claire's to remove these products from the shelves and we need them to figure out how asbestos got in their products to begin with,” Katz says. “We need Congress and the FDA to take action. We need to ban asbestos from beauty care products and makeup.”Right now, Katz and U.S. PIRG are urging us to avoid products with talc until federal laws change.It's not the first time Claire's has come under scrutiny for this. A combination of restrictions placed on restaurants and public health experts advising the public to avoid restaurants has resulted in a decline for many eateries.The National Restaurant Association said it expects that 10,000 restaurants will close in the next three months, based on a survey of its members.The National Restaurant Association is hoping to get some additional relief from Washington. Last week, a bipartisan group of legislators put forth a stimulus bill that would include additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, which helped businesses make payroll early in the pandemic."In short, the restaurant industry simply cannot wait for relief any longer," said Sean Kennedy from the National Restaurant Association. "We appreciate the efforts of a group of moderate members of the House and Senate to advance a true compromise between the competing proposals from Democratic and Republican leaders. If this moderate plan represents a 'down payment' for a larger relief package in early 2021, it will provide restaurants with immediate relief to hold on through the most dangerous point in our business year."While restaurants are having receding revenues, restaurant costs are not declining, and in some cases, increasing, according to the National Restaurant Association’s survey. The survey found that 58% of full service restaurants are expecting to furlough or layoff additional employees over the next three months. That’s with 89% of full service restaurants already operating at below pre-pandemic staffing levels.The National Restaurant Association says that 17% of bars and restaurants fully closed either permanently or temporarily in November due to the pandemic."What these findings make clear is that more than 500,000 restaurants of every business type—franchise, chain, and independent—are in an economic free fall," said Kennedy.The restaurant industry is a major factor in the US economy. He said he's been hunting his whole life and will not buy lead-based ammo because of its affects on these birds."I made the switch to non-toxic shot, steel, tungsten, bismuth and those types of things, and that's what I use now in the field," he said.Many hunters said they chose lead because it's cheaper, and because they believe it makes their shot more accurate. Walton disagrees: "I don't see any difference in performance."This mission tugs at Walton's heartstrings because he also helps bring birds into Raptor Recovery when they are sick or injured. "It's not pretty," he said. "It's very sick, and it takes a lot to get them back on their feet, if you can."Walton hopes other hunters will take his lead."If you love to see the eagles soaring overhead and you love the fact they are coming back to Nebraska, there's more and more nests here then there were last year," he said.
