BALTIMORE — The U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops, which is meeting in Baltimore this week, will now face a lawsuit.It's being filed today by six people who have accused Catholic priests of sexual abuse. The group is hoping this lawsuit will prevent bishops from keeping cases of abuse secret. On Wednesday in Baltimore, sexual abuse survivors and their attorneys, along with victims advocates, will announce the details of the lawsuit. The suit names the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for hiding the known histories and identities of the accused clergy members from the public, parishioners and law enforcement.They're demanding the release of files that would help them prove their allegations that some bishops were complicit in covering up the abuse and protecting priests. They also want a full disclosure of all of the known offenders from the nearly 200 dioceses across the country.Six survivors from California, Illinois, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania will talk Wednesday about why they filed the suit together and why they're doing it now. Later Wednesday afternoon, Loyola University Maryland will also hold a public forum to talk about the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. 1254

BORDEN, Ind. — A plane crashed Friday morning in southern Indiana, killing multiple people. According to WHAS, the ABC affiliate in Louisville, the crash happened in Borden, Indiana at about 11:30 a.m., in the 2600 block of Crone Road. The plane that crashed could hold about 10 passengers, Clark County Sheriff Jamie Noel said. No survivors have been located at this time, Noel said. The sheriff's office said there were multiple fatalities, WHAS reported.He said it was very difficult to access the scene of the crash due to it being in a wooded area.  582

Big league players will still hear the roar of the crowd even though the stands will be empty when the baseball season opens next week.Taking a cue from two European soccer leagues, Major League Baseball will play crowd noise from its official video game through ballpark sound systems during games. Stadium sound engineers will have access to around 75 different effects and reactions, according to MLB, which has provided teams with crowd sounds captured from “MLB The Show.”San Diego Studios, a branch of Sony Interactive Entertainment, compiled the noise during games over several seasons.Clubs started using the sounds during summer camp games and will be able to test them further during exhibition games.“There was some reticence when you first talk about crowd noise in an empty ballpark because you don’t want to do something that is distracting,” said Chris Marinak, who is MLB’s Executive Vice President for strategy, technology, and innovation. “It is heard in a way that is natural with the play of the game and on field. British authorities have arrested a second man in connection with the bombing of a London Underground train on Friday, officials said Sunday.The 21-year-old man was arrested late Saturday in Hounslow, west London, by detectives from the London Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command.In Friday's incident, at Parsons Green station, an improvised device exploded as a train arrived during the morning rush hour, injuring 30 passengers. 448

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A priest in Bay Village says someone called police about a homeless person sleeping on a bench. It turns out it was actually a statue of Jesus.The sculpture was created by Timothy Schmalz, and depicts Jesus wrapped in a blanket and lying on a bench.Within 20 minutes of the sculpture's installation at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, police were called, according to the church's pastor, Alex Martin. He tweeted that an officer told him someone had called to report a homeless person sleeping on a park bench.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland reached out to Bay Village police, who have not yet responded to a request for more information.According to the church's website, because Bay Village isn't impacted much by poverty, the statue is meant to remind residents how serious homelessness is in the world.The temporary installment will be on display until Dec. 1.The church is currently raising money to try and help the homeless.
