SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bluff that overlooks Beacon’s Beach in Encinitas is on the brink of collapsing, which could mean changes for the walking trail that leads visitors down to the beach. The City of Encinitas says the bluff is at risk. There is a low-lying failure and the bluff could fall, taking the walking trail with it.“We’ve been told by our experts that there is a chance that the slide could happen at any time,”says Brenda Wisneski, Developmental Services Director for the City of Encinitas. Visitors at Beacon’s Beach say they feel the walking trail makes the beach different from others. “It’s one of my favorite beaches in all of San Diego. A part of that is because of the access, this trail is highly unique and it's not stairs,” says Mark Tayer. The city has a proposal to add a staircase south of the entry to the trail.“That is the most safe, the most secure. It requires a minimal amount of stability at the base of it,” says Wisneski.Wisneski says the city also has plans to move the parking lot back from the failure area. This could mean fewer parking spaces for visitors. The city hopes to begin construction in the fall of 2019. The proposal will go to the planning commission next. The trail will stay there until it poses a safety issue to visitors. On Wednesday, the City of Encinitas will have an open house where members of the community can voice their concerns. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A San Diego man walked up to a horrifying sight:  his wife bloodied and unconscious in Balboa Park.Donna Gookin and her husband Ed were part of a group participating in orienteering last Wednesday in the early evening.  Orienteering is hiking sport that combines a compass, a map and locating markers.  The two were on separate parts of the trail. Not far from the Cabrillo Bridge, Ed found a cluster of emergency personnel around his wife, unconscious and about two feet from a pool of blood."Scared and fearing the worst. I may have lost my wife," said Ed Gookin.RELATED: Elderly veteran attacked in North Park while riding mobility scooterHis wife survived but suffered several fractures in her eye socket and bleeding in her brain.  She remembers regaining consciousness in the hospital the next day."A headache and wondering what happened," said Donna Gookin.Her last memory was choosing to go on a less steep path.  But her husband doesn't believe she fell. RELATED: Police investigating after body found in Balboa Park"I think somebody hit her.  Somebody clubbed her," said Ed.He says his wife, who has thin skin, had no injuries on her body.    "She would have been very bloodied and torn up, because of her skin, if she had ... fallen," said Ed.RELATED: 29-year-old stabbed on bench in Balboa ParkEd also points out her clothes were not sandy and there were no rocks near her that could have caused her injury.  If she was attacked, the couple hopes a witness will come forward."I want other people to be safe and think they would be safe walking on the trails in Balboa Park," said Donna.10News recently profiled an 81-year-old man who says he was struck near his eye by a man with a rock-filled sock in North Park the night after the Balboa Park incident.Police have yet to say if they're looking into a link.  If you have any information on the cases, call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 2013

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — UPDATED: MARCH 19, 2020, 7 PM - In a post to Instagram, The Gym San Diego said it would comply with the county’s order and close starting on Friday.San Diego County officials ordered all gyms and fitness centers to close Wednesday in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.Officials also banned gathering of groups of 10 or more people in one room as people worldwide practice social distancing.Despite the orders The Gym San Diego located in Pacific Beach remained open to members."I just think personally, it’s being drawn out of proportion," said gym goer Daniel Rosati.Rosati chose to show up to The Gym and work out, telling 10News he did not see a problem with fitness center choosing to continue letting people in."I think if people have energy and they feel that good, I doubt very highly they have the coronavirus," he said. "That’s just my opinion."Rosati said he believes people were working out a safe distance apart."I know it’s very safe, there’s disinfectants everywhere, they’re wiping everything down all day long in between each person," he explained. "If anyone even slightly has the slightest cough or sniffle, the owner, Rick, asks them to leave."The San Diego Police Department said The Gym choosing to stay open is in violation of the county public health order, which is a misdemeanor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As police ramp up their probe, an Otay Mesa dog owner believes his dog may also have been targeted by a pepper spray-wielding mail carrier.The owner of 9-year-old Roscoe didn't want identified, but he tells 10news about two months ago - moments after their mail carrier left - Roscoe started to twitch in pain, which lasted minutes. He say Roscoe was behind a gate and not a threat to the postal carrier. Hours later, the dog's eyes were still red. The dog's owner didn't report it, but says another neighbor complained about a similar occurrence. Both of their homes are just blocks from the Galindo home on Agosto Street."Makes me feel angry and so sad that he's causing so much pain," said Alfonso Galindo.Earlier this week, he spoke to 10news about the strange stains on his patio that prompted him to check his surveillance video. He watched the unbelievable unfold: a postal carrier appearing to hold pepper spray under the mail, as he walked by a metal gate. Behind the gate is his 7-year-old rescue Pupa. At the same time, Pupa begins convulsing for minutes."Sickening. It's scary how nonchalant he is. He's done this before," said Galindo.Galindo says he found nine similar incidents in the recordings on his hard drive, about a month's worth. The Postal Service issued an apology, saying the 'appropriate action' will be taken."That left me with a question. Is this person going to be retrained and put back on my route? That's not going to cut it," said Galindo.There are also more questions about the impact on his two young children, who are constantly touching and hugging Pupa. For months, they've suffered mysterious respiratory issues, requiring frequent trips to the hospital. On Wednesday, both were diagnosed with asthma. Galindo says more tests need to be done, but doctors believe the pepper spray could be the cause, and at the minimum, is an aggravating factor."I'm scared to find out where this could take my children. What he's doing is criminal," said Galindo.Galindo says several police detectives have interviewed him and collected evidence. A SDPD spokesperson tells us they are "actively investigating." 2164
