A tiger and panther cub pair was seized at the Tijuana Airport Tuesday. Both are safe an in custody. Officials say the cubs were found inside a wooden box with no documentation. Both were sent from the State of Mexico, but officials say their final destination is unclear. This isn't the first time a tiger cub has been taken in. Last August a tiger cub was seized from a car at the border by Customs and Border Protection officers. That cub has been under the care of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.  528

A small plane gave drivers a big fright Wednesday night as it made an emergency landing in the middle of a busy highway.The single-engine plane’s landing on I-35 in Minneapolis was caught on traffic cameras around 9:30 p.m. CT.The plane reportedly hit a vehicle as it came down, officials say no one onboard and no one on the ground were hurt in the crash landing.The pilot was identified as a 52-year-old Minneapolis man by local media outlets. A software flaw is being blamed for showing a positive COVID-19 test result incorrectly for more than two dozen tests. University of Kentucky laboratory scientists say they were inspecting and reviewing raw data from a testing platform when they became concerned about discrepancies in the data. They believe the testing platform, Thermo Fisher, which was authorized for emergency use by the FDA, had a software flaw that might result in false positives.After re-testing the samples using another platform, scientists confirmed that the tests initially reported as positive for COVID-19 were negative. The flaw was only found in one of the four testing platforms that UK's clinical laboratory uses.Every patient who received incorrect results is being notified about the issue. No negative results changed. UK HealthCare also has notified Thermo Fisher Scientific and the FDA."For anyone tested at UK HealthCare, it is important to know that the vast majority of results have not changed," said UK Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Mark Newman. "Since these very astute employees discovered this issue, we have taken extensive measures to validate each test in question and worked diligently to contact all parties – the vendor, the FDA -- and most importantly, our patients and providers."UK HealthCare says they are working with local health departments and the Kentucky Department of Public Health to correct all data."UK's clinical laboratory has performed more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests since March and only a very small percentage of tests have been affected by this software defect," Newman said. A man was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct for allegedly spitting on a boy and telling him he “now has coronavirus.”Jason Copenhaver, 47, walked up to the boy on Sunday at a restaurant in Treasure Island, Florida. He asked the boy if he was wearing a face mask, according to the police report. The boy said yes, and Copenhaver told him to take it off and asked to shake his hand.The boy refused, according to police, then Copenhaver grabbed the boy’s hand and said “you now have coronavirus” while standing close enough to the boy for spit to land on his face.The police report also notes that Copenhaver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, and tried to hit an employee at the restaurant who asked him to sit down. Staff was able to walk him outside and hold him on the ground until police arrived.Once in custody, Copenhaver told police he doesn’t know if he has coronavirus and has never been tested. 936

A massive redevelopment plan that would add a hotel and convention center to Chula Vista's bayfront cleared its last major hurdle Tuesday. The Port of San Diego board of directors unanimously approved the plan, which would add a 1,600 room hotel a 400,000 square-foot convention center along the shores of Bayside Park. The project has been in the works for more than a decade, but developer RIDA can now pull permits for the .1 billion project. "It's transformational," said port commissioner Ann Moore, noting the project would add retail, restaurants, park space and create 7,000 permanent jobs. "The revenues that this project generates will actually be used to pay for the project."Chula Vista residents at Bayside Park expressed concern Tuesday that the traffic would be overwhelming. "I think that Chula Vista is already kind of crowded so I don't know if that's the best thing to have people coming into the city," said resident Sherry Hunter. Ed Conroy, who walks in the park daily, said he expected an onslaught of traffic but that the extra crowds could benefit local businesses."It looks like they're growing," he said.
