SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The door-to-door salesman accused of taking swings at a Pacific Beach woman and a string of threatening outbursts while canvassing neighborhoods is behind bars.An arrest warrant was issued on Dec. 6, 2019, for 45-year-old Corey Lamont Terry on felony charges of making criminal threats and attempted burglary, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. According to San Diego Police, Terry was arrested by Sheriff's deputies on Jan. 9. Shawn Takeuchi told 10News. Terry had reportedly been visiting neighborhoods in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach, claiming to be raising money for charity.Several people told 10News he would become aggressive when he was denied donations."He chases me across the street, screaming that he's going to kill me," Sarah Jarzabek told 10News. "Scared to death, honestly."Jarzabek recorded video of a confrontation with Terry on Nov. 2, 2019. SDPD positively identified the man who reportedly swung at Jarzabek as Terry. He was detained and questioned the next day, but ultimately released.“It’s a little bit concerning he’s still out there,” said John Christenson, an Ocean Beach resident who said he encountered Terry on Oct. 16, 2019. “Basically said that he did want to knock me out, was getting in my face, calling me all kinds of names. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The man responsible for a fatal drunk driving crash nearly two years ago was sentenced to more than three decades in prison Friday. San Diego Superior Court Judge Joan Weber handed Jeffrey Levi a sentence of 30 years to life in prison, plus an additional four years for the crash that killed 19-year-old Isaac Felix and 33-year-old Jesus Dominguez. “I do want to remind you Mr. Levi, because I know that you’re going to be living with that for the rest of your life, that you killed these two young people and burned them to death, you permanently maimed another young woman, and injured an officer,” said Weber. “By my count, you made four fatal decisions on that night."In January 2018, Levi got behind the wheel of his Mustang while drunk and drove more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 15. RELATED: 2 dead in fiery crash on I-15 in Scripps RanchHis car slammed into a Toyota Corolla carrying Felix, Jesus Dominguez, and Giovanna Dominguez. The Corolla was disabled in the freeway lanes, then hit by an SUV driven by an off-duty San Diego Police sergeant. The sedan burst into flames, killing Felix and Jesus Dominguez. Giovanna was severely injured but rescued by Good Samaritans. Sgt. Raymond Rowe was also injured. Levi fled the scene, completely uninjured. He was later found and arrested. “I made very serious mistakes with detrimental consequences; I relapsed,” said Levi after explaining his attempt at rehab for his alcoholism. “I think of Jesus, Isaac, Giovanna and their friends and families every day. I wish that I could do or say something to change what happened, but I can’t and I have to live with that forever.” In August, a jury found Levi guilty of second-degree murder, hit and run, drunk driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also has a prior DUI conviction from 2007. The victims’ families have also filed a civil lawsuit against Levi, the City of San Diego and Sgt. Rowe. That case is pending. 1977

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The first thing Whitney Dickerson does when she gets home from work each evening is make a cup of her favorite tea.It's because her job as a veterinary technician can be stressful. "Everyday I go in and I don't know what's going to go through those doors," she said. "It could be a really emaciated animal with severe mange, it could be a really happy lab coming through."But Dickerson's angst doesn't end when her shift is over. She's not sure how much more she'll be able to afford. "I feel like the city's slowly pushing me out," she said.Now, the rent's getting so high that it's near a tipping point for thousands of San Diegans. More than half of those who responded to a recent 10News Union-Tribune scientific poll said they'd seriously considered leaving California in the last year.  </p><p> The average rent is now ,887 a month, up 8 percent from a year earlier, according to Marketpointe Realty Advisors. And CoreLogic reports the median home price in the county is now about 0,000. "That's a problem for everybody, and I think everybody feels that," said Rick Gentry, who heads the San Diego Housing Commission, which oversees affordable housing in the city. </p><p><strong>HOW DID WE GET HERE?Gentry describes something of a perfect storm when it comes to housing in San Diego -1) There's not enough housing for the middle class.2) There aren't enough resources for low-income individuals.3) The current market has already swallowed up the glut of homes built during the housing bubble before the market crashed in 2008. "And that means the marketplace has gotten that much more expensive and that much tighter," Gentry said. "There's no place to move to."Gentry added turnover has declined drastically at the 3,400 affordable apartments the commission manages, and the section 8 voucher waiting list has ballooned to 80,000. Plus, San Diego County continues to grow with more jobs - employers added 27,000 new payroll positions in the last 12 months. Meanwhile, developers in the county only pulled permits for 10,000 new homes. "It takes a long, long time to get approvals for buildings to put new product online," said Mark Goldman, a real estate lecturer at San Diego State University. "There are more and more impact fees that makes it more expensive, there's a limited amount of land to do it."Goldman said it's a very complicated, risky business to start with a piece of vacant land and try to put a lot of housing on it.He said the amount of time that it takes given environmental review, regulations, and delays raises the cost of projects - to the point that some developers just drop it. WHAT WILL SOLVE THE CRISIS?There is movement in the works to spur development, including a region-wide plan to encourage development along transit routes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance pictures were released Tuesday of a woman who San Diego Police believe struck a parked car and critically injured her passenger in Lincoln Park.The crash happened just before 5 a.m. on the 500 block of South 47th St.A woman driving a gray 2010 Mazda 3 moved to the right side of the road and struck an unoccupied, parked SUV, police said.The crash caused a 79-year-old man who was in the back seat of the Mazda to be thrown forward, striking the front passenger’s seat. The man was not wearing a seatbelt. Police said he is not expected to survive significant head and neck injuries.A 39-year-old man who was sitting in the back seat of the Mazda suffered minor injuries.Police said the female driver walked away from the scene before officers arrived. She is described as African-American and in her 50s. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Filipino community in San Diego numbers around 200,000, second only to Latinos.This election the effort to get out the vote among that group has stepped up.Jo Ann Fields is among those getting out the word. She's been manning a phone bank nearly every day for the past few weeks. "It's important for us to get out the vote so we can grab the attention of our decision-makers and get things done," Fields said.Fields is the Government and Public Relations Director for the Asian Pacific Islander Initiative. The group does many things to support and advance its community, including civic engagement."We are the second largest ethnic group after Latinos we are the largest segment among Asian Pacific Islanders," says Fields.According to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters, more than 46,000 special language ballots have been requested in Filipino this year.Fields says there are several factors she thinks will encourage people to vote in record numbers, including having a Filipino candidate on the ballot, such as Todd Gloria, who is running for San Diego mayor."This is the first time someone from our community would be the leader of a city with 1 million-plus residents so that's really exciting," Fields said.The effort to get out the vote has been impacted by COVID-19, but the outreach is all done virtually this year."Phone banking is one way, text banking is another, virtual town hall like we will have Friday," Fields recalls.That town hall is designed to answer questions about how and when to vote.
