LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A teenager died Sunday after being shot at a mall in Lexington, Kentucky. The Fayette County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 17-year-old Kenneth Wayne Bottoms Jr., of Lexington. Bottoms was transported UK Medical Center at about 4 p.m where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.Two other victims were also injured in the shooting, which police say happened in front of a Bath and Body Works at Fayette Mall. Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at least one of the victims and a suspect knew each other. They may have had an interaction prior to the shooting.Officers are currently interviewing witnesses. No suspects are in custody at this point.Scripps station WLEX interviewed one Lexington shopper who was inside Bath and Body Works. She says she witnessed an argument outside of the shop that escalated when someone pulled out a gun."Held it up at face level... and he shot four shots off," said the shopper.The shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, says she was escorted with others toward the back of the store."We stayed in the bathroom until police got us out of the service door to Bath and Body Works, and they walked us around all of the blood to take us outside," said the shopper.Mark Thomas was inside his shop, Bourbon Creek, when he saw a group of people run by with sheer panic on their faces. His store was packed at the time, so the retired Lexington police detective quickly jumped into action."We had several customers that were wanting to leave, and we have a back door into the parking lot, so we were able to help evacuate people through the store. (KGTV) - A strip mall that had fallen into disrepair and attracted squatters has been placed into receivership, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.Located on the 7400 Block of Broadway, the property consisted of several buildings that had closed about a year ago after the city busted an illegal marijuana dispensary.But that’s when the real problems began.“Lots of police calls, criminal activities and police responses,” said Richardson Griswold, who was appointed as the receiver by a superior court judge on Friday.It came after the City of Lemon Grove had been granted a judgment against the owners of the property. The judgment required that the owners clean it up and properly secure it, but that was never completed.When the receiver arrived Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department was called in to remove six people who had been living inside. One of them was found hiding in the attic. Four were taken into custody on existing warrants.Inside, Griswold said there was “heaps of trash, clothing, and no plumbing, so there was the smell of human feces and human urine.”He had already hired a crew to start clearing out the buildings and board up the access points. LEIMERT PARK (CNS) - A 5-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when he apparently found a gun that went off in his hands inside a Leimert Park home. Los Angeles police responded at 1:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the home in the 2000 block of Van Ness Avenue, and the child was found inside. ``Initially it appears to be a self-inflicted'' gunshot, an LAPD official told City News Service. LAKESIDE (CNS) - A neighbor helped a 76-year-old woman to safety from a house fire today, authorities said.At 10:31 a.m., San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a residential structure fire in the 11400 block of Pinehurst Drive, according to Sgt. Greg Hampton.No other structures were threatened and the fire was extinguished shortly after deputies and fire personnel arrived, Hampton said.The woman suffered from minor burns and smoke inhalation and paramedics took her to UC San Diego Medical Center, the sergeant said.Sheriff's bomb and arson detectives responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. 644

(WFTS) - An 85-year-old man was bitten by an alligator at a Florida retirement community, the Florida Wildlife Commission said.The incident happened at the Cypress Lakes Retirement Community in Lakeland Monday afternoon.The man was reportedly bitten on the foot and taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. The extent of his injuries are unknown.Sheriff’s deputies called a wildlife trapper, who removed the gator. Experts estimated its size at 9’9”.Jane Rickel, who lives nearby, said trappers found the man’s white sneaker in the gator’s mouth.“His wife heard him screaming supposedly. And I guess his neighbor came to his rescue.
