The oldest American survivor of the Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor has died.  Ray Chavez was 106.Gary Bobileff of the Spirit of Freedom Foundation told 10News, "He was a humble man and he was truly a patriot."Seaman first class Ray Chavez was assigned to the Navy minesweeper U.S.S. Condor; it was on continuous duty for the next nine days in the waters around Pearl Harbor.  Bobileff described his focus as two-fold."Number one; love of country; that is of paramount important. Number two: Be strong, be bold, be brave."Chavez has often attended commemorative events in San Diego and in Hawaii.  A few months ago Ray Chavez was invited to the White House."The president acknowledged him, shook hands."Richard Rovsek, also from the Spirit of Liberty Foundation of Rancho Santa Fe, recalls the moment."It was very emotional; the president was charming as he can be. The National Rifle Association's executive vice president and CEO Wayne LaPierre slammed Democrats for their reaction to the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, and warned of government overreach extending far beyond the limiting of fire arms."What they want is more restrictions on the law-abiding," LaPierre said on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside Washington. The main "Fast and Furious" franchise is reportedly coming to an end.According to Variety, Justin Lin will direct the final two installments in the series. Lin directed the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth "Fast and Furious" films.No official word yet on when the 10th and 11th films would be released.Deadline reports that the latest installment, titled "F-9" is set to debut next Memorial Day.The main storyline follows Dominic Toretto, who's played by Vin Diesel, and his family of fellow car-enthusiasts-turned-hijackers.The franchise has spanned over 20 years and is Universal's highest-grossing movie series in its history, Deadline reported.According to Entertainment Weekly, Universal Studios plans to make more spin-off movies based on characters from the prominent films. 795

The IRS added a new question to the top of the 1040 tax form, aimed at identifying people who make money on cryptocurrency transactions. Cryptocurrency, or virtual currency, includes things like Bitcoin and is a digital representation of value that functions as a medium of exchange, according to the IRS.The question asks: “At any time during 2020, did you receive, sell, send, exchange, or otherwise acquire any financial interest in any virtual currency?” The only options to answer are yes or no.The question is similar to one that was added to the form for 2019 tax filings. At the time the question was on a section used to report certain additional income or adjustments, called Schedule 1. However, not a lot of people file Schedule 1 forms with their return. In 2014, the IRS issued a notice that virtual currency should be treated as property for tax purposes. Tax experts say the move, putting the question on the main form, may signal that the IRS is serious about going after virtual currency investors who under-report their holdings.“In my view, the IRS is treating omitted virtual currency transactions in the same manner it pursues foreign bank accounts of U.S. taxpayers,” Lewis Taub, a certified public accountant and director of tax services at Berkowitz Pollack Brant Advisors + CPAs told Yahoo Finance. “By asking the question on the top of the first page of the return, the IRS is making it clear that any income from gains or losses from virtual currency must be reported on the return.”The question will appear at the top of the 1040 form, right below a person’s name and address.The IRS has increased their investigations into cryptocurrency investments, getting digital currency exchanges to release information about investors activity.Among recent high-profile cases was software mogul John McAfee, who was accused of tax evasion using cryptocurrency in October, according to FOX News. 1922

The pandemic is having an impact on the mental health of many Americans. Young people are particularly feeling this with changes in learning and missed milestones.In a new survey of 14 to 24-year-olds, Mental Health America found 24% of those surveyed think training adults would help with their mental health challenges.About 47% said they want to learn more about how to help their own mental health, which is what one new program developed during the pandemic is trying to do.“What we're hearing is that young people are depressed, that they have very little hope for the future, and they want skills to be able to help themselves and their peers,” said Martin Rafferty, CEO and founder of Oregon-based nonprofit Youth Era.The program Uplift by Youth Era is a five-day event and training that is free for young people.“It’s giving them the skillsets to take a look around in their community and say I can be a part of change.
