SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials with the San Diego Padres announced Friday that pitcher Luis Perdomo received a a five-game suspension for his role in Wednesday’s bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Colorado Rockies. The scrum began in the bottom of the third inning when Padres starting pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a 96-mph pitch that nearly hit Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in the back.Arenado threw down his helmet and bat and charged Perdomo, who countered by throwing his glove at the batter. As Perdomo backed up to avoid an Arenado punch, players and coaches from both sides stormed the field in an attempt to break up the fight.RELATED: Base-brawl: Benches clear in Padres-Rockies game“Arenado has received a five-game suspension for charging the mound and then fighting.  Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra has received a four-game suspension for fighting during the incident,” the team said in a statement. "Padres pitcher Buddy Baumann has received a one-game suspension for fighting during the incident.  Perdomo, Arenado, Parra and Baumann all received undisclosed fines in addition to their suspensions.,” Padres team officials said.Padres catcher A.J. Ellis, infielder Freddy Galvis and Rockies pitcher German Márquez were also fined for their actions during the altercation. The brawl likely stems from Tuesday night when Padres outfielder Manuel Margot was hit in the ribs in the 9th inning. He was placed on the disabled list with bruised ribs.Perdomo, Arenado, and Parra are set to begin their suspensions tonight."If any player elects to appeal, then the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.  The suspension of Baumann, who has since been optioned to Triple-A El Paso, will be effective upon his return to the Major Leagues, pending appeal,” the Padres said. 1870

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Parents and students are concerned after someone found a bullet in a Point Loma High School restroom. The incident was reported on Monday and while students say there was a lack of communication from school staff, word traveled fast on campus. The school says police are now investigating. "We never heard anything over the intercom or anything," says senior Javan Hedrick. "In my 4th period class, it came up out of nowhere. Everyone was talking about some bullet found in the boys bathroom." Around noon, parents received an email sent from the school's principal, that says in part: "At Point Loma, our first priority is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our students. As such, I wanted to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning. School Police investigated a report of a bullet found on the floor of the boys restroom. After an investigation, it was determined there was no threat."Some parents pulled their kids out of class and aren't sure when they'll send them back. "I walked into the office, it was a crazy amount of kids trying to go home," says Hedrick. Students say they would have felt a little better if school staff talked to them about the incident. "If something was to happen, no one would of had any idea."The principal is encouraging students to contact Crime Stoppers if they have any information about the incident at 888-580-8477 or text 27463 (CRIMES). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- November is nearly here and, as millions are making Thanksgiving travel plans, we’re taking a look at the cheapest ways to get around Southern California. According to AAA, more than 54 million Americans traveled more than 50 miles for Thanksgiving in 2018. The vast majority of travelers traveled by car. Below is a comparison on how much it would cost a family of four to get from San Diego to Santa Barbara and back using various methods of transportation: Taking a TrainAhead of the busy holiday, Amtrak is increasing capacity on its Pacific Surfliner route. If you were to book your trip on October 23, the cheapest tickets for a family of four cost 6 to get there and the same to get back for a total of 2. However, if you’re trying to get there quickly, you’ll save about an hour each way by driving instead of taking the train. Taking a PlaneOf course, there’s always the option of flying. As of October 23, Google Flights lists the cheapest airfare for a family of four as 8 roundtrip. Most people, however, choose to travel by car, according to AAA, and that may be your cheapest option despite recently skyrocketing gas prices. Taking a CarThere are many cost factors to consider, including the make, model and year of your vehicle, how many miles per gallon it gets, fuel cost around Thanksgiving and traffic. So, let’s assume you drive a 2015 Kia Forte. Currently, gas is just over per gallon. Assuming you fill up twice between San Diego and Santa Barbara and twice on the trip back, fuel would cost just over 1. Even as gas prices remain extremely high compared to the national average, getting to your Thanksgiving destination by car is the cheapest option. The above estimates assume a family of four is traveling between Wednesday, November 27 and Saturday, November 30 between San Diego and Santa Barbara. Of course, prices on all methods of transportation listed above are subject to change, especially as the holiday gets closer. 1994
