Services marking the arrival of the year 5780 on the Hebrew calendar feature the blowing of the shofar, a ram's horn mentioned in the Torah and used by ancient Jews in religious ceremonies and as a call to arms and now used at Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashana is a time when Jews gather with family members and their communities to reflect on the past year and the one beginning. Celebrants also eat festive meals featuring apples dipped in honey, symbolic of the wishes for a sweet year. Rosh Hashana begins a period of contemplation and repentance culminating in Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, Judaism's most solemn and somber day. During the High Holy Days, Jewish tradition holds that God records the fate of each person for the coming year in the Book of Life, which is sealed at the end of Yom Kippur. (KGTV) - A San Diego County sheriff’s deputy was arrested in Riverside County this week on suspicion of child molestation, according to law enforcement records.Riverside County jail records show 40-year-old Sam Thomas Knight was taken into custody Tuesday in the county. He was booked into jail on charges of lewd/lascivious acts on a child under 14 (felony); lewd/lascivious acts with a child under 14 with force (felony); and annoying/molesting children (misdemeanor).According to a criminal complaint, the incidents happened in 2011 and 2016. An investigation began in 2016. An arrest warrant was issued for Knight nearly two weeks ago, but Knight was not arrested until this week.Authorities could not immediately comment why there was such a lapse in time to detain an individual wanted on child molestation charges.Bail for Knight was set at ,000. Details on what led to Knight’s arrest were not immediately disclosed.Sheriff's officials said Knight has been placed on leave. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department had no comment on Knight’s arrest and referred any questions about his case to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office: 1167

(KGTV) - Caltrans announced freeway closures on I-5, I-15 and SR-163 to do road work this month.SR-163State Route 163 will have closures in Mission Valley starting Monday night. Residents and businesses may hear jackhammering and truck back-up alarms.All lanes of north 163 will be closed between I-8 and Genessee Avenue Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday nights 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.The Genessee on-ramp to north 163 will remain open. Other drivers will be detoured to I-8 and I-805. INTERSTATE 15I-15 will be closed at SR-76 in Escondido during daytime hours Tuesday. The north I-15 connector will be shut down from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for road maintenance.Signs will be posted directing motorists on northbound I-15 to exit at Mission Road/Old 395, then turn left to southbound I-15 to access SR-76. INTERSTATE 5Starting Sunday night and going until May 30, construction crews will close either northbound or southbound lanes of I-5 overnight to begin construction of the Mid-Coast Trolley.Drivers will see heavy equipment and machinery on the freeway, and residents can expect to hear loud construction noise during the closures.The project will start with a large support column for the trolley bridge in the freeway center divider.The trolley is being built to extend the Blue Line eleven miles north from the Old Town Transit Center to University City, running through Mission Bay Park, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego and Westfield University Town Center Mall.The Mid-Coast Trolley is expected to start running in fall 2021.Closure Details:Northbound I-5 will be closed from State Route 52 to La Jolla Village Drive: 1664

(KGTV) -- Costco members can now purchase COVID-19 testing kits online.The company posted two test kits on Costco.com, one priced at 9.99, the other is listed at 9.99.According to the item descriptions, both saliva PCR kits “test for COVID-19 infection at home without a painful nasal swab.”Test results will be available between 24-72 hours, the descriptions stated.The site description also said: “You must register for a lab order with AZOVA after checkout for each person who is taking the test. You will receive a coupon code to redeem on AZOVA.com/costcotest to receive your at-home test kit.”The test kits are only available on the Costco.com site; the kits are not available in Maryland, Nevada, or Pennsylvania. 734

(KGTV) -- A large Hollywood-style Trump sign caught the attention of drivers in San Diego County throughout the day Wednesday.The massive sign could be seen along I-5 in the Del Mar area and comes just weeks after a similar sign was placed along the 405 freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.It’s unclear who placed the sign on the hillside or when it will be taken down.Watch video of the sign from Sky10 below:A similar incident happened in early October as drivers noticed an identical sign along the 405.That sign was taken down by Caltrans. The agency told the Los Angeles times the sign was erected on private property."This was a life and safety issue because there were concerns about distracted driving,'' Lauren Wonder, chief public information officer for Caltrans, told the Los Angeles Times regarding the incident earlier in the month. 848
