(KGTV) -- A local family is mourning the loss of a teenage girl killed in a weekend hit-and-run crash in the North County.Kirsten Tomlinson died in the early morning hours of June 6 after authorities said she was struck by a vehicle in an unincorporated part of Escondido.The 17-year-old was several feet from her home on Mesa Rock Road when the incident occurred. If it wasn't perfect, it was it was re-done 100 times and it doesn't matter if it took five minutes or if it took five hours.”Now, her family is looking for comfort in all of the pictures she left behind.“She took so many pictures and I am so grateful that she did because we have thousands of pictures,” said Connery.Lissona faces felony hit-and-run charges, and a CHP spokesperson said other charges are being considered. 2189

(AP) — A man who gained internet fame as "Kai the Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker" was sentenced to 57 years in prison Thursday for the beating death of a New Jersey man he had met in Times Square.Caleb McGillvary will have to serve at least 85% of his sentence under terms imposed in state Superior Court in Union County.The 30-year-old Alberta, Canada, native was convicted last month of killing 73-year-old lawyer Joseph Galfy at Galfy's New Jersey home in May 2013. Authorities said the two met in New York City and the defendant stayed at Galfy's home.McGillvary alleged he acted in self-defense following an attempted sexual assault. Prosecutors said his statements were inconsistent and also cited the victim's extensive injuries. Galfy was found beaten to death in his bedroom, wearing only his socks and underwear.Several days after Galfy's death, an employee at a Starbucks in Philadelphia recognized McGillvary, and he was arrested at a bus station.A few months before meeting Galfy, McGillvary gained a measure of fame after intervening in an attack on a California utility worker.In a TV interview viewed millions of times online, he described using a hatchet he was carrying to repeatedly hit a man who had struck the worker with his car, and also fend off a further attack on two women. 1321

ESCONDIDO (CNS) - An argument between two men at a northern San Diego County gym Tuesday turned into a baseball bat assault that sent one of them to a hospital, authorities said.A bystander made a 911 call shortly after 9 a.m. to report the fracas outside LA Fitness in the 300 block of West El Norte Parkway in Escondido, according to police.Witnesses told officers the dispute started as a quarrel inside the business, Sgt. Mike Graesser said.The bickering men eventually made their way outside the gym, at which point one of them went to his car, retrieved a bat and attacked the victim with it, hitting him on the head at least once, Graesser said. The attacker then got into the vehicle, a black sedan, and drove off.Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.The assailant remained at large Tuesday afternoon, though police had "a pretty good idea who he is," according to Graesser, who noted that a witness videotaped the assault."We have some good leads," the sergeant said. 1056

Facebook users in the United States who want to run certain ads on the platform will need to hand over the last four digits of their social security number and a picture of a government-issued ID.The social network now requires anyone who wants to run ads related to political campaigns, civil rights, immigration, guns, economy, and other issues, to prove they're in the United States. Part of the proof required is the last four digits of your Social Security number.The move is part of a series of initiatives by Facebook to increase transparency on the platform after a Russian government-linked troll group spent thousands of rubles?on Facebook ads targeting Americsans ahead of the 2016 presidential election.In addition to a Social Security number, users wishing to buy ads will need to provide a picture of a government-issued ID and a US mailing address. Once Facebook verifies the information submitted, the company will mail a code to the provided address to authorize the user's Facebook account to buy ads.Facebook declined to share what services it uses to verify Social Security numbers and other personal details. Any ad mentioning a candidate will be subject to the new rules.In April, Facebook released a list of 20 "issues" -- including as abortion, education, guns, health, immigration, military and terrorism -- that apply to the new approval process.The last issue on Facebook's list is "values," which the company considers "issues that discuss the values used in determining societal standards, such as patriotism."The new rules mean many marketing campaigns will be subject to the new guidelines.
