Noting that China and Latin American countries, including Caribbean countries, are developing countries, Xi said both sides are at a similar stage of development thus providing opportunities for each other.

He briefed the delegates on achievements of China's reform and opening-up during the past 40 years and important measures of a new round of opening-up at a higher level, expounded on China's relations with the world, and listened to the delegates' remarks.

FUTURE EXPECTATIONS

Xi's speech is very much welcomed because "what we need today is not more borders but less borders," said WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo, adding that "we need countries to leverage their potential to help each other and to give more opportunities to businesses and for growth."

He expressed the hope that members of the association and political advisors from Hong Kong will continue to take the lead to publicize and implement the principle of "one country, two systems," and support the government and chief executive of HKSAR in exercising law-based governance and working in an active effort.
