Some people who have been dealing with COVID-19 symptoms for months are getting hope with a new diagnosis.Doctors are starting to recognize a syndrome called POTS in some of them. It stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.POTS is a disorder of the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible for controlling things like our heart rate and blood pressure.It's estimated as many as 3 million people in the U.S. have POTS, not connected to COVID-19, but it's a new diagnosis for some post-COVID patients.“One has to have pots like symptoms at least more than 6 months before we can diagnose pots and that's another reason we are only beginning to recognize pots now because the pandemic started earlier this year and although we feel like it’s been going on forever, we are only recognizing it now,” said Dr. Tae Chung, Director of the Johns Hopkins POTS Clinic.Chung just opened a clinic dedicated to post-COVID patients with POTS-like symptoms about a month ago. Those symptoms include lightheadedness, prolonged fatigue and brain fog.It is a hard condition to recognize and doctors are being cautious in diagnosing it.“The symptoms to a medical provider, they may seem kind of non-specific. Oh you've had an infection, you're going to be tired, but no when people have lightheadedness that is severe and seems to be disabling and limiting activity, we need to be thinking about the possibility of an autonomic disorder,” said Dr. Brent Goodman, who runs the Autonomic Lab at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.Goodman has also been seeing post-COVID-19 patients who have developed POTS.The treatment is individualized but can include exercise, changing up how much salt is in your diet, and medication.It's not clear yet how recovery will be for post-COVID-19 patients. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A toddler lovingly known as the "Baby Shark Girl" is making big strides.When WFTS first met Harper Mae Comparin, the then-2-year-old girl born with spina bifida was learning how to walk via a very unique method: the "Baby Shark" song.Her physical therapist at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital used the syncopation of the love-it-or-hate-it kids jingle to get Harper Mae to move. And it worked.Now, a year and a half later, her team of medical workers and family members continue to use inventive methods to help her deal with complications related to the birth defect in which the spinal cord fails to develop properly.She needed therapy to walk and to talk.Physical therapist assistant Nick Hamilton, who works at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, recently helped Harper Mae when she was scared of getting her leg cast sawed off."I'm a big kid, so I fit right in here," Hamilton said.So, he improvised. He made a cast for Harper Mae's Elsa doll. And it worked."Having her baby doll that she carries with her everywhere get a cast just like hers has helped her feel better about it," said mom Erica Comparin.Hamilton says a big part of Harper Mae's therapy is "improvisation." SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Some residents at a mobile home park in Spring Valley had to leave Monday morning after a sinkhole opened up nearby. According to San Miguel Fire, the incident happened of the 10000 block of Jamacha Road. The sinkhole grew to roughly the size of a children's pool. A car parked in a driveway could be seen dangling over the hole. At this time, it’s unclear what exactly may have caused the sinkhole. Special counsel Robert Mueller's team last year made clear it wanted former Trump campaign deputy Rick Gates' help, not so much against his former business partner Paul Manafort, but with its central mission: investigating the Trump campaign's contact with the Russians. New information disclosed in court filings and to CNN this week begin to show how they're getting it.In a court filing earlier this week, the public saw the first signs of how the Mueller team plans to use information from Gates to tie Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, directly to a Russian intelligence agency. Mueller's team alleges that Gates was in contact with a close colleague of Manafort's who worked for a Russian intelligence agency -- and that Gates knew of the spy service ties in September and October 2016, while he worked on the Trump campaign. Gates would have to talk about the communication with the man if prosecutors wanted, according to his plea deal.That's in line with what prosecutors told Gates months ago during high-stakes negotiations, CNN has learned. They told him they didn't need his cooperation against Manafort, according to a person familiar with the investigation, and instead wanted to hear what he knew about contact between the Trump campaign and Russians.The extent of Gates' knowledge about any such contact or what he told prosecutors hasn't been made public.As part of Gates' agreement to cooperate with the special counsel a month ago, he earned a vastly reduced potential sentence and had several charges dropped in two criminal cases against him.Gates' plea also adds to mounting pressure on his co-defendant Manafort -- who so far the government is making a central player in the investigation -- to change his plea and potentially help investigators.
