SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a California community college instructor with ties to the far-right extremist "boogaloo" movement is in custody on suspicion of sending misogynistic and threatening letters to a county health officer involving the pandemic. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that deputies arrested 55-year-old Alan Viarengo and seized 138 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition from his home in Gilroy. Viarengo is charged with felony counts of stalking and threatening a public official. Dr. Sara Cody, the health officer for Santa Clara County, has been one of the nation's most visible proponents of social distancing and wearing masks. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) – Two teenaged girls had a frightening encounter with a stranger the parking lot Sportsplex USA Santee Thursday night.“He’s lucky I didn't walk out to minutes earlier,” Beau Branton said. His 14-year-old daughter was one of the girls involved.Branton plays in an adult softball league. Their game finished around 11 p.m. His daughter and her 13-year-old friend were there. After the game, they went to the pickup truck to get warm, while Branton finished up on the field.That’s when a man came over to the teens sitting in the car.“They saw him coming over and when they saw him coming over, they freaked out and locked it," Branton said. "He started yanking on the handle to get in.  When he realized he couldn't get in, he just stood there and didn't say anything, just a blank stare.”After a few seconds, the man seemed to give up and leave.“(My daughter) got out to come get me,” Branton said. “She came out from the truck, and towards the Sportsplex, that’s when (the stranger) came from behind a car and started chasing her.”His daughter got back into the truck in time to watch the man drive away.“He had a hoodie on, backpack,” he said, “cleanly shaven, he had two shaven notches on his eyebrows.  They watched him get into a red minivan and drive away.”San Diego Sheriff's Department said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, and weighing about 170 pounds. He reportedly has short brown hair.He also had two shaved lines through his right eyebrow.The suspect reportedly fled in an early 2000's model, dark, red minivan with faded paint and a sticker on the back window.Deputies are working with the girls to create a sketch of the suspect and are asking any other witnesses to come forward.Lt. Chris Steffen says they are not yet sure of the man's intentions and that he might not have known the girls were in the car. SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - A man drove a stolen van onto the grounds of the now- idled San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and claimed to have explosives in the vehicle, drawing a response from the San Diego County sheriff's bomb squad, which determined that there was no danger, authorities said Wednesday.The driver, 27-year-old Erik Jon Norman, was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicle theft, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Pamela Wotkyns said.Sheriff's deputies went to the nuclear station a little after 4:20 p.m. Tuesday after security officers reported that Norman drove a white delivery van past the entrance gate and into a restricted parking lot, Wotkyns said. The security guards quickly detained Norman, but he told them the van contained electronic equipment and "possible explosives."The sheriff's department's bomb/arson unit was called to the scene but determined the van contained no explosives, only standard shipping parcels, Wotkyns said. Deputies later discovered the van was reported stolen earlier in the day from Oceanside and arrested Norman, taking him to the Vista Detention Center where he remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of ,000 bail. 1178

SAN ONOFRE (KGTV) -- Police chased a domestic violence suspect from Los Angeles County to San Diego County Thursday night. The driver, who has family in Tijuana, was believe to be heading to the border, according to our ABC affiliate in L.A.?At one point, the suspect may have ran over a spike strip, slowing him down. Once near the Camp Pendleton area police attempted two pit maneuvers. Shortly after the suspect drove off the freeway and into the brush, where he ultimately turned off the car and exited his vehicle. Police were able to take him into custody around 11:20 p.m. and began to search the vehicle. *This is a developing story. 10News will continue to update as more details unfold.  730

SEATTLE, Wash – Amazon announced Tuesday that it would be launching a billion venture capital fund to invest in companies that are building products, providing services and creating technology to decarbonize the economy and protect the planet from climate change.The company hopes The Climate Pledge Fund will enable it and other companies to meet The Climate Pledge, a commitment to be net carbon neutral by 2040.Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge with Global Optimism last year.
