SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Diego Couple is breaking the internet after getting married at a Costco in Mission Valley Thursday. Margot Schein and Julian Parris told 10News they made the decision to get married at Costco because, after meeting on a dating app, they decided to have their first date at the store. According to Schein, the couple decided to wed at Costco on their three-year anniversary. The wedding included a custom-made cake from the store, an archway and pallets to hold up bouquets of flowers. Staff at the store even took the time to set up chairs for the event as well as decorate a portion of the Costco with rose petals. “I feel like we have a whole new Costco family,” Margot said. 720

San Diego (KGTV)- People in North Park say they’re fed up with rushing water and flood damage from recent water main breaks. There have been at least four major water main breaks, since 2017, in the same area. The latest break over the weekend was located on Myrtle Avenue near Park Villa Drive. Neighbors were left without water for almost eight hours. They tell 10News they have been trying to get the city to fix the lines in the area for years. “In the past 12 years, we’ve had seven… five on my street, two on the side streets,” says neighbor Linda Nelson. Nelson has been living in her North Park home since 1980. She says they’ve had some breaks in the same spots. “What happens is they patch it up and then a year or two later it breaks where they patched it.”The city says the concrete pipe was over 50 years old. They are in the process of replacing all cast iron pipes around the city. Then they will then assess the concrete ones. The city hopes to have all the cast iron pipes removed by 2023. But with a fast-growing community, neighbors feel the infrastructure in areas like North Park should be first on the list. “They want more apartments on the transit lines, which mean North Park,” says Nelson. “If they increase the density and they don’t fix the infrastructure that we have that just puts more pressure on it. Until they can make it right for the folks that lived here for a long time, I don’t think we need any more people.” 1457

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) People across California will soon be able to use an app to notify or find out if they have been exposed to COVID-19.The CA Notify system was launched on the campus of UC San Diego in September. Monday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the tool would be available on Google and Apple devices statewide beginning on December 10th.Dr. Christopher Longhurst, Chief Information Officer for UC San Diego Health, says the tool helps stop the spread of the virus on campus."While San Diego case rates have surged from 3 to 6 percent, our campus has fortunately remained a safer place with our students and employees testing positive at less than 1 percent," said Dr. Longhurst.Philip Tajanko is a freshman at UCSD. He signed up for the app shortly after arriving on campus in September."I figured that I might as well download the app just in case," said Tajanko.Tajanko tested positive for the virus in October."Outside of the people I directly informed by giving them a phone call or text, it did give me some peace of mind knowing that I could just send out this blanket alert that would notify anyone that I had been in contact with but don't have their phone number," said Tajanko.The system uses smartphone technology when a users' phone is within close proximity to another user for an extended period."You're not going to get an exposure unless your phone is within 6 feet of someone else's device for greater than 15 minutes cumulatively," said Dr. Longhurst.The governor stressed the app is opt-in, 100% private, secure, and does not track location.It has been effective. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat damaged the USS Midway Sunday.The mast of the sailboat collided with a safety net attachment on the front port-side ‘horn’ of the ship. The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. according to Harbor Police.The mast of the sailboat snapped off. There was minor damage to the safety nets of the Midway.“I thought something fell off the flight line, I didn't think a boat would crash into the Midway,” said Craig Wiener, who was touring the Midway at the time of the crash. “We were looking out the little port windows, and you see the mast falling off into the water."Harbor patrol says no charges are expected and attributed the crash to inexperience on the part of the person steering the sailboat.  Eight people were onboard the sailboat, and none of them were hurt.“He didn't realize how close he was and how tall his mast was and it was too late and the wind pulled him in,” Wiener said. 945
