SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- America’s Freedom Bell, which has been traveling across the country for years, officially has a permanent home in San Diego.Wednesday, the bell was unveiled at its new home at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park. Before that, it was kept in a storage facility in between travels.Richard Rovsek, a Rancho Santa Fe resident and founder of the Spirit of Liberty Foundation, drew up a design for the bell on a napkin during a meal. 72 hours later he learned it would become a reality.Rovsek created the bell to give Americans a chance to ring it and honor the men and women who served our nation. Five million Americans have rung the bell so far.“It’s closure for families,” said Rovesek.The bell was cast on June 6, 2013 with full military honors on the 69th anniversary of D-Day. It has traveled to Independence Hall, Arlington Cemetery, Pearl Harbor, Normandy Beach and more. It will continue to travel occasionally, but will forever call San Diego home. On the bell are the timeless words “Honor Our Armed Forces Past, Present and Future.” It includes emblems for every branch of the military and contains 11 pounds of steel from the World Trade Center.Wednesday, the Spirit of Liberty Foundation and The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park also announced the creation of “America’s Patriotic Honor Roll” which will include the names of more than 100 million veterans who have served since 1776. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video captured shots ringing out, apparently pelting cars in a Rolando neighborhood, including the vehicles of a family already impacted by the pandemic.A shattered windshield is what Ondria Aviles found when she went to her Dodge Journey, parked outside her home along Marraco Drive on Monday night."Just couldn't believe that had happened," said Aviles.Her husband came out and found the driver side window of his truck - also parked on the street - was also shattered."My husband had a BB pellet hole in his window," said Aviles.Turns the moments their vehicles were vandalized were captured by neighbor Ryan Dick's surveillance camera. Just before 7:30 that night, a red sedan was recorded driving through when three shots rang out in a span of three seconds. The final two shots sounded near Aviles' vehicles.According to posts on the Nextdoor app, at least four other cars and homes were struck in a several-mile stretch. "Couldn't imagine if they missed and hit someone, a young child. We have three kids," said Aviles.Along with her outrage, there is frustration. The bill for the window damage will be a hardship. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Whether or not the Padres head to the World Series, Petco Park may still see playoff baseball this season.Under a plan by the MLB, a neutral-site playoff format with teams living in a "bubble" may be finalized next week, though it is awaiting approval by the Players Association, according to ESPN.The plan states that playoffs would start with the top four seeds in the AL and NL hosting all the games in a best-of-three wild-card series: the AL games between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 and the NL games between Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.The highest AL seed would be the home team for the division series at Petco Park in San Diego, while the other series heads to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The AL championship series would then be played at Petco Park.On the NL side, the top seed into the division series would play at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and the next-highest seed would play at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The NL championship series would be hosted in Arlington.The MLB's reported plan would begin the World Series on Oct. 20 at Arlington and end no later than Oct. 28.ESPN reports that the Players Association is considering concerns from players who have lived outside of the bubble format, similar to how the NBA has operated this season, with the ability to be around family and friends. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Wednesday, a San Diego City Council Infrastructure Committee was briefed on the progress of a downtown building that’s presently costing taxpayers millions and may end up costing tens of millions more.The 19-story building at 101 Ash Street was supposed to be about saving taxpayers money and improving communication among city employees. But some council members say it’s becoming a symbol for just the opposite."What people need to remember is this is tax-payer money," says Councilman David Alvarez.
