CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A company in Carlsbad is doing its part to help the animals injured by wildfires in Australia.Oska Wellness has donated ten of its patented Oska Pulse devices to animal hospitals in New South Wales."I have a cat and a dog, my daughter has a snake, we're animal lovers," says Dr. Jeff Marksberry. "So anything you can do personally or as an organization, we're going to do."The device uses electromagnetic pulses to help realign the ionic charges within damaged cells. "All of your cells in your body have a plus/minus. They work with electronic properties," says Dr. Marksberry. "When someone's injured, when they have pain, when there's inflammation, those things all change, those properties..."We use the pulsed electromagnetic field to realign those charges to heal the cells."The Oska Pulse has been used on humans since 2015, but Dr. Marksberry says they know for a fact that it works on koalas as well."There was a koala during the 2015 wildfires that made the news for not responding to any pain treatments," he explains. "Our founder donated one of the prototypes to the vets there. The koala had a great response. The koala's name was Oska, so we actually adopted that as our name for the US device."Dr. Marksberry says the ten devices they sent can help treat dozens of patients, since multiple animals can use it at once, and treatment only takes a few hours each day."As long as it's next to the animal, they can still get pain relief from the device and go ahead and get normal rehabilitation treatments they've been getting," he says. For more information about the Oska Pulse or Oska Wellness, visit www.oskawellness.com. 1670
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The body of an 11-month-old girl whose disappearance prompted an Amber Alert has been found dead in a diaper box, her mother is reportedly in custody. According to WBTV, the mother, 19-year-old Breanna Lewis, had initially told officials that she was walking to her mailbox carrying her daughter when a man violently stole the baby out of her arms. The baby, Harlee Lane Lewis, was found dead a few hours later.Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the body was found inside a diaper box in a field about 1,000 yards behind a home in Chesterfield, South Carolina.Brooks says the Amber Alert was canceled “because we don’t think there was a kidnapping.” The mother was then taken into custody and is being questioned, along with other family members, according to WCIV. The mother has been charged with filing a false police report, according to WSOC. Additional charges are pending following the autopsy report. The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, the FBI and SLED are investigating the case. 1106

CHANDLER, Az. -- The Chandler Police Department in Arizona says it may file charges against Lori Daybell in connection to the death of her late husband, Charles Vallow, but that the decision to ultimately charge her will come from the prosecutor's office.Lori has since remarried and said in a court hearing that she prefers to be referred to by her new last name, Lori Daybell. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Chandler Police Department said "if and when" charges are sent over to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, they will include conspiracy to commit murder."Ultimately, whatever charge is sent over to the prosecuting agency by the Chandler Police Department, it is at the decision of the prosecutor," the police agency said in its statement.Charles Vallow was killed last summer in Chandler. In January of 2019, he made a call to Gilbert police asking them to conduct a welfare check at their home because he hadn't heard from his children, JJ and Tylee, in the two days prior. He also told police that Lori had been acting strange. "She’s psychologically gone, something has happened to her," he told authorities.Six months later, in July 2019, Charles was killed. Lori's brother, Alex Cox, admitted to shooting Charles but claimed it was in self-defense. Cox died in December of natural causes, according to a medical examiner's report.Chandler police said Lori has always been a "person of interest" in her late husband's death, but it is clear she did not shoot him. They said if charges are filed it would likely happen in 4-6 months. An exact date has not been determined, police said.Chandler police added that detectives still have search warrants and subpoenas out on the case and are going through over "10,000 pieces of digital data."Charles and Lori's children, JJ and Tylee, were reported missing for about six months until June of 2020 when their remains were found buried in the backyard of Lori's current husband, Chad Daybell's home in Idaho. Both have been arrested and are facing various charges.A criminal complaint alleges that Daybell concealed the remains between Sept. 22, 2019, and June 9, 2020. Rexburg police in Idaho began the search for the children in November 2019.He is currently in jail awaiting trial on several criminal charges, including destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence. He has pleaded not guilty.Vallow is being held at a jail in Madison County, Idaho and is also charged with misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers, criminal solicitation to commit a crime and contempt of court. She has pleaded not guilty to those charges. A jury trial is set for January 2021.This story was originally published by staff at KNXV. 2701
CATALINA, Calif. (KGTV) - Teeth marks from a great white shark are proof of a San Diego kayaker's narrow brush with danger off the coast of Catalina Island. The incident happened as Danny McDaniel and Jon Chambers were kayaking Saturday morning near Ship Rock, about two miles east of Catalina. The excursion was part of a scuba diving trip coordinated by Power Scuba from the island's Boy Scouts camp."Felt push to the left, looked to right, giant great white shark a foot from my boot," said McDaniel. "His upper half of body was out of the water, his dorsal fin was out of the water."Chambers was the first to notice the 19-foot shark before McDaniel turned around."Look at it and said, 'oh crap, oh crap, oh crap'," said Chambers. "I yelled at him to hit it."The shark had its jaws clamped on the back of the nine-foot-long kayak, inches from McDaniel. "Saw a giant, triangular, conical-shaped head right there and a huge body. Just a massive body," said McDaniel. Both men said they were frozen in fear as the great white shark hung on to the kayak for four or five seconds. Eventually, the shark let go, leaving behind puncture wounds and two large teeth in the kayak. "I don't think he took a full chomp. I think he just took a nibble and pushed," said McDaniel. The kayakers kept their paddles out of the water and did not move for several moments lest the shark return. McDaniel was "literally frozen" during that time.Despite the close encounter, McDaniel and Chambers continued with their plan to scuba dive later Saturday evening."Won't keep me out of the water, won't scare me out of the water," McDaniel said of the encounter.McDaniel offered to buy the kayak from the Boy Scout camp, which turned down his offer, according to Power Scuba owner Bill Powers."I think I've had my fill of great white sharks; I'm good. But I'm fortunate to have this experience," said McDaniel."It's one for the books. Not something you want to replicate," said Chambers. "He had the best shark attack experience without it being a bad story." 2043
