Police in Hampton, Virginia are investigating after 119 MacBook Air laptops were reported stolen from an elementary school.Officers were called to Phenix Elementary School on August 17.Police say two unidentified suspects broke into the school through a window shortly after 3 a.m. and made off with the computers.23-year-old Averi Wilkins of Hampton was charged with one count of possession of stolen property in connection to the case.Wilkins tells News 3 he buys and sells used electronics all the time and didn’t know the laptops had been stolen. He’s scheduled to be in court Tuesday.Hampton Schools says the stolen laptops have not been recovered. 661

Police in Ohio are looking for thieves who made away with massive amounts of candy at a Garfield Heights convenience store.According to detectives, a Cleveland-area Speedway convenience store has been robbed of tens of thousands of dollars in sweets.Garfield Heights Police said they have been working this case since June.“We're getting calls after the fact because when they're doing their inventory, then they're discovering the shortage,” said Detective Phillip Herron.The surveillance video shows the robber walking in, followed by several other people.“This guy’s got a bag, he's shoving all kinds of candy and there's a lot of people in that store, and not one person has called us, alerted us,” said Herron.The manage of the Speedway declined to comment on the robberies. Herron said the manager has also declined to speak to police.“As far as getting cooperation from employees in the store, we're not getting a lot of cooperation,” he said.So where is all this candy going? Herron said the robbers are most likely not eating it all, but reselling it.“Either take that candy and resell it to a store,” he said. “We got information from other cities that, some of these inner-city stores are buying the stolen candy for pennies on the dollar and they'll be able to resell it and make a bigger profit.”Back in July of 2016, thieves stole hundreds of dollars worth of candy at the Speedway in nearby Berea. Police in Middleburg Heights, another nearby Cleveland suburb, also confirmed a similar robbery earlier this year.The detective said the black market is becoming a bigger business on the streets. He said all the cases could possibly be linked.So far, Middleburg Heights said no arrests have been made in their case. Berea Police have not responded to requests for updates.  1854

Their loans aren't eligible for the government's penalty-free repayment pause, which is in effect until at least Oct. 1 for federal student loans.About 70% of borrowers in a new survey from Student Loan Hero have been successful in getting their private lender to give them a break after they called to ask.Nearly three out of ten people in the survey with private student loans say they've thought about filing for bankruptcy over the last three months. Gen X has considered this the most.We talked to a certified student debt counselor and student loan lawyer, Christie Arkovich, who says a lot of people don’t realize you can discharge student loan debt in bankruptcy.“What we're targeting is someone who usually had federal loans and private loans and we are usually arguing that the private loans were taken outside the cost of education and therefor, they're just like any other debt, credit card debt and such, and they can be discharged,” said Arkovich.“Outside the cost of education” means more has been loaned out than what the person needed. Arkovich says her goal with bankruptcy cases is not to necessarily get rid of the entire debt, but to make payments sustainable and affordable, with an end date.Bankruptcy is an extreme measure and not for everyone.“Bankruptcy is a last resort option, because it will really force you not only as a student loan borrower but as a citizen and a consumer to start from scratch on your finances,” said Arkovich. “So, your student loan debt shouldn't be the only reason that you would consider bankruptcy.”One thing to consider first with private student loans is debt consolidation. You can work with a nonprofit credit counselor on that. There are also repayment assistance programs for private loans.Federal student loans have more options, including student loan forgiveness programs.For current students, make sure your FAFSA is up to date, so it reflects your family's current financial situations. After that, contact your school's financial aid office. Explain your situation if your family has lost income as a result of the pandemic.Colleges expect students to appeal their financial aid packages right now, and it may get you more money to help pay for school. 2304

Passengers were able to travel on a Delta flight from the US to Europe without quarantining on Tuesday, assuming they passed three coronavirus tests.The flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam, the first between the two locales that does not require quarantine since the onset of the pandemic, required passengers to be negative from a PCR coronavirus test in the previous five days, and receive a negative result from a rapid coronavirus test at the airport the day of the flight. A second PCR test is then administered upon arrival, and passengers are not required to quarantine once receiving a negative result.Delta is also launching a similar program for flights between Atlanta and Rome this week. Passengers bound for Rome are required to take a PCR test within 72 of the flight in addition to being administered a rapid test at the airport. Travelers then must also receive a negative result via a rapid test upon arrival in Rome.“Air travel is the backbone of the global economy. In normal times, it supports more than 87 million jobs and contributes to .5 trillion in GDP worldwide,” said Perry Cantarutti, Delta’s Senior Vice President -Alliances and International. “The arrival of a vaccine is fantastic news, but it will take time for it to become widely available around the world. PHOENIX, Arizona — A Phoenix-based American Airlines flight attendant was sentenced to five years of probation for taking videos of men and boys using public restrooms. Special Agents with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) say that on December 30, 2017, they detained Gordon Harold Nobriga, 50, as he was trying to leave the country through El Paso, Texas. Officials searched Nobriga's cell phone and found "numerous videos of men and boys using a public restroom." Investigators say the videos appeared they were produced through a 'peephole' in a bathroom stall. When questioned about the videos, Nobriga reportedly told HSI that the videos were produced in a store, but he refused to give the store's location. Since Nobriga is from Phoenix, the phone was sent to the Homeland Security Office in Phoenix where investigators were able to determine that the videos came from a Walmart store in Phoenix. They say surveillance video from the store shows Nobriga entering the bathroom several times over a two-month period and spending hours in the bathroom each time he went in. Investigators were able to identify two victims, a man, and a 14-year-old boy, both who do not know Nobriga. Nobriga was arrested on May 25 at Sky Harbor Airport as he exited a flight. On August 16 of this year, Nobriga pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted voyeurism and was sentenced to five years of supervised probation. Nobriga said he's been a flight attendant with American Airlines for sixteen years. Nobriga allegedly admitted to taking the videos, but he denies any distribution of them. He's was initially charged with 11 counts of voyeurism. American Airlines sent this statement at the time of Nobriga’s arrest: “We take this matter very seriously and have been cooperating with law enforcement throughout their investigation. Since this case is a pending criminal matter, we must refer all questions to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Phoenix.” 2070
