SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Tierrasanta woman whose toddler died after being discovered in a car was arrested Thursday, San Diego Police said. Police said they waited this long to make the arrest to build evidence for a trial.Twenty-month-old Scarlett was found unresponsive outside the home at 10304 Leary St. on Aug. 5. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child but were unsuccessful. Police said the girl’s mother, Pricilla Marquez Harris, called them at 12:45 p.m. that day to say she could not find her daughter. Harris later called back to say the girl was in her Nissan Altima and not breathing. Harris was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation the same day, officials confirmed to 10News.Harris is charged with child endangerment, inflicting great bodily injury on a child under the age of five years, and personal infliction likely to produce great bodily injury or the death of a child. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Three women were rescued from a Blacks Beach cliff early Thursday.The three women, all from East County, were stuck on a cliff in the Box Canyon area of La Jolla just after 8 a.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue and lifeguards. Fire crews said the women became stuck just above the beach, prompting crews to use a rope system to hoist them down."As you can see, even using a rope system to get down to the beach is challenging because of the steep and slippery cliff conditions," SDFD said in a Facebook post. 540

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The U.S. Postal Service will dedicate the Sally Ride Forever stamp to America’s first woman in space.The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony will take place Wednesday at the University of California San Diego, where Dr. Sally Ride taught.After the ceremony, Sally Ride Science at UC San Diego will honor her with a 6:30 p.m. panel discussion on women in leadership.Ride dazzled the nation as a trailblazing astronaut, brilliant scientist, and dedicated educator.Her journey to space began in 1977 while she was finishing her Ph.D. in physics at Stanford University. She saw an article in the student newspaper saying NASA was seeking astronaut candidates, and for the first time, women were allowed to apply.Five years later, Ride became the first American woman to reach space when she launched in the Challenger for a six-day expedition.She was 32 at the time, making her the youngest American to go to space.After retiring from NASA in 1989, she took a job as a physics professor at UC San Diego and became the director of the university’s California Space Institute.Ride used her experiences in space to explain difficult physics concepts to her students.In 2001, she co-founded Sally Ride Science, a company dedicated to fostering interest in STEM fields among children, especially girls.Ride was honored for her contributions to science and space exploration with the NASA Space Flight Medal and the NCAA's Theodore Roosevelt Award. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though there are still votes to be counted, data from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters is showing how residents voted on some of the most widely publicized races this midterm election.While the Registrar's data reports 100 percent of precincts, there are about 490,000 outstanding ballots waiting to be processed — so these numbers are not the county's official results.They do, however, show how San Diegans compare in statewide races.STATEThe race for governor was fairly close according to the data, with Democrat Gavin Newsom leading 53.87 percent to Republican John Cox's 46.13 percent.Cox conceded to Newsom late Tuesday after statewide numbers showed Newsom take the lead, winning 59 percent to 41 percent.RELATED: Nathan Fletcher, Jim Desmond win San Diego County Board of Supervisors seatsIn the race for U.S. Senator, San Diegans voted for Democrat Dianne Feinstein 53.6 percent to fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon's 46.4 percent. In California, Feinstein took about 56 percent of the vote.California's Attorney General race was squarely in the hands of Democrat Xavier Becerra in San Diego County, who gained 55.16 percent of the vote.LOCALAt a local level, the close races continued, with Democrat Mike Levin taking former Rep. Darrell Issa's 49th District seat with 56.86 percent of the vote.The race for the 50th District remained close as well, with Republican incumbent Duncan Hunter holding on over challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar with 53.94 percent of the vote in San Diego.PROPOSITIONSProposition 6, known as the gas tax repeal, took favor in San Diego County with 52.64 percent of the vote. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Tunnel Task Force have released images showing what they say is a sophisticated drug smuggling tunnel that leads from Tijuana to a warehouse in Otay Mesa.Federal agents made the discovery Thursday, March 19, as part of an investigation into a transnational crime ring suspected of smuggling narcotics into the U.S. via a cross-border tunnel. The U.S. exit point was discovered subsequent to the execution of the warrant, the task force said.Agencies from the U.S. and Mexico located a 2,000-foot underground from a warehouse in Tijuana, Mexico to a warehouse in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego, according to the task force. The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway, according to authorities. Authorities estimate the tunnel to have been in existence for several months.The task force described it as having advanced construction including reinforced walls, ventilation, lighting, and an underground rail system. Authorities seized an estimated .6 million in mixed drugs including 1,300 pounds of cocaine, 86 pounds of methamphetamine, 17 pounds of heroin, 3,000 pounds of marijuana and more than two pounds of fentanyl.According to the task force, the seizure is the first time "in San Diego’s history where five different types of drugs were found inside a tunnel."The tunnel has an average depth of 31 feet and is three-feet wide through most of the passageway.“I’m proud of the excellent work performed by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, as well as U.S. Border Patrol and Drug Enforcement Administration agents as integrated partners of the San Diego Tunnel Task Force. Their tenacity made the difference in shutting down this tunnel,” said Cardell T. Morant, Acting Special Agent in Charge of HSI San Diego. “Several months ago, agents on the San Diego Tunnel Task Force announced the seizure of the longest cross-border tunnel and today we announce the discovery of another sophisticated tunnel with large quantities of drugs seized from within,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge John W.
