The United Autoworkers Union has reached a tentative agreement with Ford. This comes after almost two weeks since the UAW reached a tentative agreement with General Motors that was ratified by the rank and file last week. The financial terms of that are used as a pattern by the union to get similar terms from Ford and Fiat Chrysler. Ford has 55,000 hourly workers in the US, more than the 46,000 who went on strike against GM for 40 days. There was no work stoppage at Ford.Big issues in talks with GM were terms for lower-paid workers who were in-progression or temporary workers. Similar to GM, Ford says 34% of its workforce is in-progression and 6% is temporary. The terms of this Ford agreement are not yet known. Here’s the official word from the UAW:The UAW Ford National Negotiators, UAW President Gary Jones along with UAW Vice President Rory Gamble, Director of the Ford Department, have announced that they have reached a proposed tentative agreement.“Our national negotiators elected by their local unions have voted unanimously to recommend to the UAW-Ford National Council the proposed tentative agreement,” Gamble said. “Our negotiating team worked diligently during the General Motors strike to maintain productive negotiations with Ford. The pattern bargaining strategy has been a very effective approach for UAW and its members to secure economic gains around salary, benefits and secured over billion in major product investments in American facilities, creating and retaining over 8,500 jobs for our communities.”“Out of respect for our members, we will refrain from commenting or releasing full details of the agreement until the UAW-Ford Council leaders meet and review the details,” Gamble added.Ford also released this statement: "Ford can confirm the UAW’s announcement that the UAW and Ford have reached a proposed tentative agreement on a four-year contract. Further details will be provided at a later date."UAW President Gary Jones thanked the national negotiators for their hard work. “Vice President Gamble, his staff and the Ford negotiating team have worked tirelessly to reach an agreement that preserves job security and rewards UAW Ford members for their quality work,” said Jones. “These were long and hard hours, but I feel confident they were able to secure a contract that protects our member’s future.”The UAW-Ford National Council will meet to go over details of the proposed Tentative Agreement. If adopted as a Tentative Agreement, it will go to all Ford hourly and salary members for a ratification vote. 2565
This time of year is filled with shopping and holiday cheer. But along with the sweets and the sweaters, comes a third "S" — stress.“I definitely get stressed when I’m shopping, just to make sure everyone will like the gift I give them,” one woman said while shopping at a local market in Denver."I think family stresses families out,” Christina Critchell said.Holiday stress is a real problem for a lot of people.“I decided just this week that part of it is trying to juggle everybody’s different expectations,” Sarah Twiss said.A survey from Healthline found around 62% of people experience some level of stress during the holidays. Only 10% said they’re not stressed at all.“Everybody’s looking for a perfect Christmas,” said Dr. Ira Dauber, a physician at South Denver Cardiology. “It’s very stressful, nobody wants to ruin anybody else’s good time.”That stress can take a toll. “There’s a peak of heart attacks Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Day,” Dauber said. He helps patients with a variety of heart issues.“There’s more than one medical study that says there is such a thing as a 'holiday heart attack,' ” Dauber said.’’ In one study by the American Heart Association, researchers found a 4.2% increase in heart-related deaths between December 25 and January 7."Another study by the British Medical Journal found the highest risk for heart attack is on Christmas Eve.“What causes the spike in holiday heart attacks is really a hard thing to know,” Dauber said. “A lot of the theory is it's a stressful time of year.”The theories on why this happens changes depending on the doctor you talk to.“The short answer is yes, stress can be a factor in heart attacks,” said Dr. David Avner, an emergency medicine physician at UCHealth Broomfield Hospital. He said a lot of other factors also contribute to this spike, like traveling more around the holidays, forgetting medications — like blood pressure pills — at home, or simply not speaking up when you don’t feel well.“You might not want to interrupt the festivities and say, you know, I’m having some chest discomfort,” Avner said. “You don’t want to be shy about letting family and friends know.”There are ways to lower your risk, too. He said monitoring your diet, avoiding fatty foods and making sure you’re taking your medications regularly will help.“You need to be aware of what your body normally can do and any changes to that,” he said. “Heart attacks announce themselves very differently in different people.”There are also ways to keep your stress at bay.“It’s going to be different for different people, so if you go to a spa and that helps you feel relaxed, that’s gonna help," Avner said. "If things are feeling stressed at home and you go for a walk, or you like to go to the gym and that’s your outlet for stress release, those would probably be equally as effective." 2860
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin informed Congress early Wednesday evening that his department would be unable to comply with House Democrats' deadline for President Donald Trump's tax returns. In a letter Wednesday to House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal, Mnuchin said that "the Treasury Department will not be able to complete its review" by the April 10 deadline Democrats had given Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig to turn over six years of Trump's personal and business tax returns.Highlighting what he called the "unprecedented nature of this request," Mnuchin said that he would be overseeing the Treasury's handling of the request and that the Department of Justice was being consulted "to ensure that our response is fully consistent with the law and Constitution.""The Committee's request raises serious issues concerning the constitutional scope of Congressional investigative authority, the legitimacy of the asserted legislative purpose, and the constitutional rights of American citizens," he added.A week after Neal made 1074

TUCSON, Ariz. — While the fight over border wall funding will apparently lead to a partial shut down of the federal government, political supporters of President Donald Trump are taking matters into their own hands.A viral crowdfunding effort on for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border has raised millionBy Friday morning at around 11:30 a.m. ET, a GoFundMe page titled "We The People Will Fund The Wall" passed million from nearly 200,000 donors. The funds were raised in just five days — but the campaign is just at just 1 percent of its billion goal. If the current pace of donations continue, the campaign would hit its goal in May of 2020.The campaign was started by Brian Kolfage, a triple amputee veteran and outspoken supporter of President Trump. While his GoFundMe page states that he has reached out to the Trump Administration in order to "secure a point of contact where all the funds will go upon completion," the White House has not yet publicly commented on the GoFundMe Campaign.Kolfage is able to keep every donation he receives, regardless if he reaches his goal. Donations are currently being sent to his GoFundMe account, though he asks that check be made payable to "WeFund The Wall"While it is true that some federal agencies will accept donations earmarked for specific projects, it 1326
