(KGTV) — Escondido Fire Department is working to identify potential patients who came into contact with a firefighter paramedic who has tested positive for coronavirus.Escondido Fire Department says it learned Sunday of a firefighter paramedic who tested positive for COVID-19. Several days earlier, the employee was in contact with other people who later tested positive as well, the department said.The firefighter had recently been at work but was asymptomatic at the time. The department is notifying all patients that may have been in contact with the employee.EFD says the firefighter is currently at home under quarantine and has very mild symptoms.Other EFD staff who were in contact with the firefighter at work have shown no symptoms, tested negative for COVID-19, and are being quarantined and monitored in accordance with CDC procedures."The health and safety of our community remains our highest priority. (KGTV) -- The Escondido Union School District is choosing to start the new school year online, and the district is also pushing back its start date to August 25.The decision was approved at the Board of Education meeting Thursday night.The board also approved two hybrid learning options for when the school district is ready to resume in-person classes.For grades kindergarten through 5th, the "Modified Classic" will provide students with four half-days on campus and one day of remote learning.For grades 6th through 8th, the "Two-Day Hybrid" will provide students with two full days on campus and three days of remote learning.EUSD does have plans to reopen its campuses by the end of September; however, the board and district said they would both continue to monitor the health conditions and make changes as needed. 848

Facebook has suspended 200 apps for possible misuse of user data in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.Facebook said in a blog post Monday that it has investigated thousands of apps after it emerged that Cambridge Analytica had harvested information on about 87 million users without their knowledge.It did not name the apps that have been suspended but said they would be subject to a more thorough investigation into how they handle user data.Cambridge Analytica, which worked on President Donald Trump's 2016 election campaign, used data collected via an app developed by University of Cambridge psychology professor Aleksandr Kogan. The app offered a personality test, but Facebook users who downloaded it also gave the professor permission to collect data on their location, their friends and content they had "liked."Kogan provided that data to Cambridge Analytica, in a breach of Facebook's rules. Facebook said it asked Cambridge Analytica to delete the data in 2015, but learned in March that this had not happened.Kogan has said he suspects thousands of other developers and data scientists used similar methods to gather information on Facebook users.In response to a backlash that cost the company billions in lost market value, Facebook said it would investigate every app that had access to large amounts of data prior to 2014, when it tightened its controls.Ime Archibong, Facebook's vice president of product partnerships, said in Monday's post that the company will ban any app found to have misused data. He said Facebook would notify users about such bans and make it possible for them to check whether their data was misused."We are investing heavily to make sure this investigation is as thorough and timely as possible," Archibong said.Cambridge Analytica, which announced it was closing earlier this month, has denied misusing Facebook data for the Trump campaign, and maintains its employees behaved ethically and lawfully.  1970

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Escondido Police announced Saturday the arrest of a 13-year-old boy in a case involving Xanax overdoses at Rincon Middle School.Six children aged 11 to 13 years were found to have taken the anti-anxiety drug at lunch time on October 25.Three of the children required emergency medical treatment.  All six have since recovered with no lasting effects.RELATED: Juveniles hospitalized after taking XanaxEscondido Police arrested the juvenile suspect Monday after an investigation. The boy is charged with selling or distributing narcotics or illegal substances. He is in the custody of his parents. 635
