BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen earlier this month expressed his appreciation for Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's important and constructive role in the Copenhagen conference, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.Rasmussen made the remarks in a letter to Wen on Feb. 12, said spokesman Qin Gang at a regular press conference.Premier Wen on Jan. 29 wrote a letter in reply to Rasmussen concerning the Copenhagen Accord, reiterating China's support for the Accord and the country's climate change commitments.Wen said in the letter that the Copenhagen Accord which resulted from the UN climate change conference in the Danish capital last year laid the foundation for advancing international cooperation on climate change and enabled future negotiations to take place.Rasmussen replied on Feb. 12 that he fully agreed with Wen on his evaluation, saying that he was inspired by China's support for the Accord, Qin said.The Chinese government had reported its emission cuts progress to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reaffirming a reduction of carbon dioxide emission intensity per unit of GDP by 40 to 45 percent by 2020 against 2005 levels.Rasmussen welcomed the China's emission cuts progress. He also agreed with Wen on adhering to the main role of the UNFCCC in future negotiations, Qin said.China hoped Denmark, as chair of the Conference of UNFCCC Parties, would continue to play a positive role, Qin said, noting that the country would maintain contacts with Denmark.In Tuesday's press conference, Qin also responded to a question related to UN climate chief's announcement of resignation.Yvo de Boer has announced last week that he will resign his position as Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC as of July 1 this year.Qin said de Boer had contributed positively in organizing and serving the international negotiations on climate change since assuming his current post in 2006.China had cooperated well with the UNFCCC secretariat, and supported de Boer's efforts, Qin said. He said he hoped that de Boer would continue his contribution to tackling climate change in his new job.De Boer would be joining the consultancy group KPMG as Global Adviser on Climate and Sustainability, as well as working with a number of universities, according to a statement by the United Nations.

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Beijing's per capita gross domestic product exceeded 10,000 U.S. dollars for the first time last year after a strong economic recovery, a local statistics official said Thursday.The GDP in the Chinese capital grew 10.1 percent to 1.187 trillion yuan (137.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009, according to the Beijing Bureau of Statistics.The per capita GDP was 68,788 yuan (10,070 U.S. dollars) as the city had 17.55 million permanent residents at the end of 2009."The breakthrough is a milestone for Beijing," said Yu Xiuqin, the bureau's deputy director. "According to the standards of the World Bank, Beijing has become a moderately well-off city."According to the World Bank, a country or region should be recognized as moderately well-off when its per capita GDP exceeds 10,000 U.S. dollars, the official explained.The service industry contributed to 75 percent of Beijing's GDP and its urbanization rate had reached 85 percent, she said."The Beijing government will take further measures to boost the living standards and social welfare of the rural population to bridge the gap between urban and rural areas," Yu said.

"The second plane, which was delayed due to limited capacity of the Haitian airport, will arrive on Jan. 26."Since Jan. 13, the 60-member emergency rescue team sent by the Chinese government has fully engaged in disaster relief in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, he said. "The team has carried out effective search and rescue operations at the headquarters of MINUSTAH (the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti), the prime minister's palace and other places, with a number of bodies found, including those of Special Representative Hedi Annabi of MINUSTAH and other UN staff.""The medical team of the Chinese rescue team are providing medical support for several hundred local people everyday," he said. "At this very moment, the Chinese international rescue team is still working at this forefront of disaster relief in Haiti and doing its utmost to help more people affected by the earthquake."Since the earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, the international community has worked in solidarity to offer a helping hand to the Haitian people and government, he said. BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The 11th Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu was among 13 people who on Sunday became new members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body.Their memberships were approved by a meeting of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, which closed on Sunday.The three-day meeting also appointed Qian Yunlu as secretary-general for the third session of the 11th CPPCC National Committee and 21 others as vice secretary-generals.  The 11th Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu (front R) attends the 8th National Congress of the China Buddhism Association in Beijing, capital of China, on Feb. 1, 2010.The annual session will begin on March 3.
