(KGTV) — A family forced to flee Paradise, Calif., because of the Camp Fire finally returned home after nearly a month this week to find their faithful canine had survived and guarding their charred property.Andrea Gaylord was evacuated on Nov. 8 but only allowed back to her property Wednesday, according to group K9 Paw Print Rescue. Her property had burned in the fire. During the evacuation, Gaylord was unable to get to her dog, Madison, before the flames had spread through the town and forced her out, according to the rescue group.Animal rescuer, Shayla Sullivan, responded to Gaylord's request to check on Madison, first spotting the Anatolian shepherd just days after the fire began. Madison, however, kept his distance, according to Sullivan, who was already in the area searching for other lost pets.Sullivan decided to leave food and water regularly at the property for Madison until Gaylord was able to return, the animal group wrote.As Gaylord pulled up Wednesday, there sat Madison — being a very good boy."He had stayed to protect what was left of his home, and never gave up on his people! I’m so happy I’m crying as I write this! He didn’t give up through the storms or the fire! A long [sp] month it must have been for him!" Sullivan wrote on Facebook. 1280

(KGTV) - Box stores like Toys "R" Us are shuttering for good in coming days, but one local retailer is expanding in this toy climate.Geppetto’s has nine locations in San Diego and it just began construction on a 10th location in Coronado.“It’s amazing,” said Geppetto’s President Brian Miller, “we’re lucky to have a such a loyal customer base here.”Geppetto’s has been in San Diego for more than 40 years and Miller has been running things for the last 25 years.Miller says he may have been in competition with Toys "R" Us but he still is respectful of the fading giant."No one want's to see a business close -- whether it's Toys "R" Us or whether it’s a small business, it's not good for the economy,“ said Miller, “but with the demise of Toys “R” Us there's a great demand for toys.”A cozy aesthetic and a meticulously researched inventory that sells rather tan sitting on the shelves are what keep Geppetto’s thriving, but Miller says it starts with the customers.“We want to have them to have best experience here and we don't care if they don't buy anything today,” said Miller, “but if they have a good experience, then they come back."Geppetto’s in Coronado opens up on Orange Avenue at the end of the month. 1234

(KGTV) -- A new report sheds light on some of the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians in North County and what can be done to prevent injuries and fatalities at the intersections. According to Circulate San Diego, 1,992 people were injured, and 101 people were killed in 2018 while walking and biking on roads throughout San Diego County. While the report paints a grim picture of the problem, it also includes solutions. Some strategies to prevent crashes include reducing speed limits, redesigning streets to make them more accessible, raising awareness and enhancing data-driven traffic enforcement. Cities included in the report include Carlsbad, Del Mar, Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Poway, Escondido, Vista and San Marcos.
