ANKARA, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Turkish scholars gathered at a political forum in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Monday to discuss their economic ties, cooperation in the Middle East and coordination within the Group of 20 (G20).Wang Zhongwei, deputy director of China's State Council Information Office which sponsors the forum, said China and Turkey, both G20 members and emerging economies, share interests in such major issues as reforming international financial system and tackling climate change."We should further coordinate and cooperate in those issues. That's in the interests of the two countries' people and benefits regional and world peace and stability," Wang said in an opening speech.Fatih Ceylan, deputy undersecretariat of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, said China and Turkey hold similar views on many regional and international issues and have great potential for better cooperation.As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Turkey has worked together with China very well in issues related to Afghanistan, the Palestinians and Iran, he said.Zhang Yuyan, a scholar with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, suggested China and Turkey uphold the principle of " common but differentiated responsibility" on climate change and strive to increase the representation and voice of developing countries in international institutions.Kamer Kasim, vice president of Turkey's International Strategic Research Organization, said it's good for both China and Turkey to increase cooperation in security, energy, tourism and other areas.The forum was a part of a large-scale cultural event termed " Experience China in Turkey", which was held in Ankara and the Turkish city of Istanbul.The event, starting on Sunday and to last till the end of the month, covers nine major activities, including Chinese-Turkish political and economic forums, Chinese movie and television weeks, Chinese cuisine festival and exchanges between journalists and writers.

TIANJIN, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's top climate change official said on Wednesday that the country's greenhouse gas emissions would peak earlier than expected if developed countries complied with international protocols."We will try to get past the peak of emissions as early as possible, but this also hinges on how much money the developed nations will offer and what technology they will transfer, as required by the international protocols," Xie Zhenhua, who is also vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, told reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations climate talks in northern China's Tianjin."The more money they provide, or the earlier the money arrives, the sooner we should be able to pass the emissions peak," Xie said.He noted some developed countries, even with a per capita GDP of more than 40,000 U.S. dollars per year, have yet to reach their emissions peak as their greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise."Under such circumstances, how can you ask China, with a per capita GDP just over 3,000 U.S. dollars, to foresee its peak?" he asked.After three rounds of talks this year, which are moving slowly towards a negotiated text for the Cancun meeting, more than 3,000 delegates from 194 nations gathered in Tianjin to speed the search for common ground prior to a major meeting in Mexico's Cancun at the end of the year.However, the gap remains wide between developed and developing nations as rich nations remain wary of green technology transfers and providing additional financing to poorer nations.

TOKYO, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshito Sengoku said Friday that China and Japan, the two major economic powers in Asia, need to work toward improving bilateral relations."It is true that Japan-China relations have shown signs of deterioration," Sengoku, Japan's top government spokesman, said at a press conference, adding that efforts were needed to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.The comments came as the Naha, Okinawa, prosecutor's office said Friday it will release Zhan Qixiong, the 41-year-old Chinese fishing boat captain who has been held for more than two weeks.Two Japan Coast Guard patrol ships and a Chinese trawler collided in waters off China's Diaoyu Islands on Spet. 7.The next day, the Japan Coast Guard illegally seized the Chinese trawler and detained its captain and 14 fishermen on board, drawing strong protests from the Chinese government and its people.The Japanese released the fishermen and boat last week but held the captain. China has repeatedly urged Japan to unconditionally send back the captain to avoid additional damage to their bilateral ties.According to local media, Zhan was to leave Japan on Friday. MANILA, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government will provide the Chinese government a copy of the final report on the Aug. 23 hostage-taking incident before it divulges the findings to the public, the presidential palace said on Friday night.Secretary Ricky Carandang of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office made the statement after President Aquino met with the Incident Investigation and Review Committee (IIRC) led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, following the submission of the final report on the incident that killed eight Hong Kong nationals."We have to communicate this to Beijing first before we make it public," Carandang said, adding that the presidential palace only "wants to be careful" in handling the sensitive matter.He said that the high-level Philippine delegation will still go to Beijing and Hong Kong to formally present the report to their leaders but this will have to be done after the President's working visit to the United States.The President and his delegation to the United States will depart on Monday night and will return on Sept. 28.
