Educators at Oneonta, located at 1311 Tenth Street in Imperial Beach, believe in collaborative learning for both students and teachers. Sandoval was nominated by several people, including her students, who offered many reasons why she was a Classroom Hero, including: “…because whenever she hears a problem or sees a problem or sees someone in need of help, she helps us all in many ways;” “…because she wants us to succeed in life;” “…because she is a super leader and she teaches us how to be a leader too;” and “Nancy Sandoval is an amazing teacher whose passion for teaching is evident in the way she makes learning a fun and positive experience.” 798
SAN MARCOS, CA (KGTV) -- Chemicals found in plastics have been linked to food safety. And because of that, entrepreneurs from San Marcos have found a way to fight the problem, and at the same time, help the environment. Jessica Bell says she battled health issues, so she and her husband came up with the idea for safer food containers."It just isn't the way I wanted to live my life," she says in reference to her illnesses. So for one, she decided to eat healthier food, and at the same time, steer away from storing food in plastic containers."I realized I had to take out the things that were contributing to disease. Trying to avoid that contact that food has with those plastic chemicals. We want to be a force for change there.."And the action she took was forming a company with her husband called ReVessel."The idea of a container that can be transported and have all these modular features."Made of stainless steel and silicon, the food storage kits, as they are called, were developed with the help of deep sea engineers. and with one top priority. "Leak proofing," she says. "it's an opportunity for people to carry their lunch anywhere, whether it's in a backpack or purse."But there is more to these storage kits, as they are also environmentally safe."The average number of sandwich bags that children are carrying is about four, and that's daily. Most of them are ending up in the landfill."Jessica calls her kits, "storage anywhere food ware", and with the COVID-19 pandemic, they've teamed up with local restaurants and farms, to deliver healthy food in the kits, to front line workers. "We put together over 200 meals, and we sent these out to front line workers. They can keep these containers and reuse them. We looked at this as a way we could donate meals to our front line healthcare workers, where health really starts." 1855

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (CNS) -- Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders held a rally at San Ysidro High School Friday, focusing on his proposals for immigration in his campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. The rally at San Ysidro High School touched on an array of topics, from student loan debt, immigration and DACA, climate change, medical care, and President Donald Trump.Watch the rally:In Thursday's debate at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Sanders said that on his first day as president he would "restore the legal status of 1.8 million young people in the" Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.Opponents say the program rewards people for breaking the law, encourages illegal immigration and hurts American workers.Sanders also said Thursday that on his first day as president he would "change border policy so that federal agents will never snatch babies from the arms of their mothers" and "introduce bipartisan legislation, which will, in fact, be comprehensive, which will result in a path toward citizenship for all of the 11 million who are undocumented."Sanders also favors expanding the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans policy to bar deportation of parents of children who are either American citizens or lawful permanent residents.Sanders backs completely reshaping and reforming the immigration enforcement system, including fundamentally restructuring Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and establishing standards for independent oversight of relevant agencies within the Department of Homeland Security. 1585

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — In the latest move to change place names in light of U.S. racial history, leaders of Orange County's Democratic Party are pushing to drop film legend John Wayne's name, statue, and other likenesses from the county's airport because of his racist and bigoted comments. The Los Angeles Times reports that earlier this week, officials passed an emergency resolution condemning Wayne's "racist and bigoted statements" made in a 1971 interview and are calling on the Orange County Board of Supervisors to drop his name, statue, and other likenesses from the international airport. In the Playboy magazine interview, Wayne makes bigoted statements against Black people, Native Americans, and the LGBTQ community. 739
