SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is resuming its enforcement of all parking regulations this month.From Wednesday, July 1, through July 14, the city will issue written warnings for vehicles parked in violation of:-- Posted street sweeping routes-- Metered parking restrictions-- Curb time limits-- Commercial zonesCitations will continue to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage when looking for a parking space.Starting Wednesday, July 15, citations with fines will be issued.On March 16, the city suspended citations for vehicles violating street sweeping, metered parking, time limits and yellow commercial zones due to state and San Diego County stay-at-home orders amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 802
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The beloved founder of the popular Roberto's Taco Shop chain which began in San Diego died last week, according to the company.Dolores Robledo, 90, died on July 14, the company said in a release. Robledo opened the first Roberto's Taco Shop — and San Diego's first taco shop — with her husband, Roberto, in 1964, according to the company. Prior to that, the couple started their food career providing tortillas to stores and restaurants from their San Ysidro tortilla factory."Since then, Sra. Dolores had been sharing her love for family and authenticity through each meal served," the company said in a release. "She has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. The way she touched lives will remain ongoing. Dolores Robledo will be deeply missed. Please keep her family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time."Robledo was the mother to 13 children and had 39 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. In 1990, Roberto moved to Las Vegas and soon after decided to open his first taco shop in Las Vegas. With the help of her family, Roberto's expanded to 60 locations across California and Nevada.The Roberto's chain is believed to have started the variety of other eateries with the "berto's" suffix in San Diego. It's long-rumored that the famed California Burrito was created at one of these "berto's" shops, but which shop can claim that title continues to be debated.On Instagram, the company continued: "Sra. Dolores Robledo, founder of Roberto's Taco Shop, loved cooking good Mexican food for her family and friends. She and her family expressed that passion by opening their first Roberto's Taco Shop in San Diego in 1964. She will be missed but her legacy of cooking fine Mexican dishes will continue for generations to come."Visitation services for Robledo will be held at 4 p.m. on July 29 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The crowds at San Diego International Airport grew Friday night, as travelers kicked off the holiday travel weekend. AAA predicts a record-breaking 115 million Americans will travel this holiday season, up nearly 4 percent from last year. Of those travelers, AAA estimates 105 million people will drive, 7 million will fly, and 4 million will take the train, bus, or cruise ships. According to AAA, airports around the US will be busiest between Dec. 21 through 23. They said they were travel pros, who purposely wait until the last second to fly, thanks to father Joel's job at Southwest Airlines. "I literally cannot come home to see them until I have to leave to come and do it, so it means a lot. We all get together. It doesn't happen all the time," Jauan said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunset Hills Elementary school in Rancho Pe?asquitos has been honored for having the top-ranked School Safety Patrol in the city.The program is a partnership between San Diego Unified School District, Poway Unified School District, and the San Diego Police Department. Students participate by helping serve as crossing guards before and after school. Officer David Valdez, who oversees the team at Sunset Hills and four other schools, says the students learn leadership, community service, and volunteerism. "I have a lot of fun with them," Valdez told 10News. "It's great seeing them develop over the course of the school year."About 90 schools participate in the progam, encompassing 2,000 student volunteers. Each student is eligible to apply for the top honor of being designated as the "Colonel". This year, Sunset Hills student Maddie Smith won. "It's a great feeling," she said. "WHen you help a kid during something, even if it's just a small act, it makes you feel really good inside."Smith has ambitious goals. "I want to be the President when I grow up and I feel like this is a great way to lead me up to that. I will learn how to be a great leader, teamwork, a good citizen. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The market may soon be looking up for San Diegans hoping to buy a home. A new report by Zillow found that many economists believe the housing market in the West will turn into a buyer’s market by 2020.According to the housing site, home-values have appreciated faster in 2018 than in 2017. That coupled with a fall in inventory means that sellers are in the driver’s seat.At least for now. Zillow says recent data suggest the balance may be starting to tilt back toward buyers. Home growth is slowing in more than half the nation’s 35 largest metros and price cuts are common.Even in San Diego, where the cost of living is well above average, 20 percent of listings saw a price cut in June.A separate report from Zillow found that the increase in home values has also slowed throughout San Diego.Three out of four economists surveyed say the national housing marked could see a shift to a buyer’s market by 2020.Those same economists say the Midwest will be the first to see the shift, beginning as early as 2019, followed by the Northeast, South and West in 2020.“For the past several years, home sellers held all the cards at the negotiating table, fielding multiple offers while buyers faced stiff competition and a fast-moving market,” said Zillow Senior Economist Aaron Terrazas.Over the next year, Zillow expects the rate of appreciation to slow to 4.7 percent in San Diego, where the median home price is 4,100.“Conditions are starting to show signs of easing up, but the effects of years of limited construction still linger. Inventory is still falling on an annual basis, and home values are growing well above their historic pace.
