BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday pledged its support for United Nations role of safeguarding world peace and coordinating on international issues.     Chinese President Hu Jintao said in a meeting with visiting UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that the UN shoulders increasingly important responsibilities for promoting world peace and development. China was a firm supporter and important partner of the UN, Hu told Ban, pledging that the country would fully participate in UN work, carry out its due responsibilities and maintain close communication and coordination with the UN.     Hu said China agreed with necessary and rational reform of the UN based on democratic consultation and would continue its cooperation with the UN as well as support for Ban's work in a responsible and constructive manner. China was ready to take an active part.     China fed 22 percent of the world's population using less than nine percent of the world's land. This was a contribution to global food security, Wen said.     Ban praised China's important and constructive contribution to safeguarding world peace and common development, hoping China would play a bigger role. TOKYO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Fourth Beijing-Tokyo Forum began its plenary meeting Tuesday in Tokyo. MOSCOW, July 30 (Xinhua) -- As the special guests of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, 50 students from China's quake-hit Sichuan province Wednesday visited the glittering Andrew Hall of the Kremlin, and had a joyous time with the Russian president.     "I hope that you will make friends with more Russian children during your rehabilitation in our country," Medvedev said in his speech, describing the students as "little heroes" in the relief work following the devastating earthquake.     These middle and primary school students, who were recuperating in a rehabilitation center in southwest Russia's coastal city of Tuapse before coming to Moscow, are the representatives of some 1,000 children who would arrive in Russia for further recovery in 2008. "When the Chinese people suffered the devastating earthquake, the Pakistani people expressed concerns, offered relief materials and sent a medical team to us. The Chinese government and people feel deeply grateful," Hu said.     The medical team consists of 28 people. Hu praised them for their excellent skills and all-out efforts.     Hu said the team symbolized the friendship the Pakistani people cherished for the Chinese people and expressed his wish that the friendship would last forever.     The team members said they felt Chinese people's hospitality and vowed to do their best for the quake victims.
