Do you ever wonder what impact putting your recyclables in the right bin can actually have? For one Colorado city, it’s been huge.At prAna, an activewear business located in Boulder, Colorado, Drew Romano’s biggest concerns are his customers and Mother Nature. Recycling is front and center.“Hey, we're not just throwing your stuff in the landfill; it's actually being recycled,” says Romano about the company.Most of prAna‘s shipping supplies are recyclable. As for the plastics bags that hard to recycle, prAna partnered with a company to make sure they don't end up in the landfill.“We wanted to make sure that we can strive to be as zero waste as possible,” says Ramano.It's part of the city’s Universal Zero Waste Ordinance, which requires businesses to recycle and compost.  Environmental manager Kara Mertz, who works for the City of Boulder, says in just one year, the effort is paying off. The city is now saving more than half of its trash from going to the landfill.Mertz says they used this video to show residents how to recycle. Then, they made it easy for residents to do it, by placing bins with clear and identical signage across the city.“I think making it easy and accessible to everyone is really the key,” says Mertz.Mertz says it's something we can all do, no matter where we live.“We do believe that over time people will get more and more used to it,” Mertz says. “It'll become second nature, and then all of that material, once it's sorted properly, can be put in the correct bins.” 1520

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- El Cajon could become the first city in San Diego County to ban the sale of vaping products. That comes as the CDC investigated hundreds of vaping-related illness. In total, there have been 22 vaping-related deaths confirmed across the U.S., including two in California. Public health officials have been asking people to stop vaping until they get answers. Tuesday, the City Council will vote to decide if vaping will be banned in the city of El Cajon. Some councilmembers say they want a complete ban on the sale of vaping products and flavored juices. Investigators still haven’t found the root cause of the illnesses, but did find that 78 percent of people injured reported using THC containing products. 744

EL CAJON, CA (KGTV) - Students at a private school in El Cajon are scheduled to return to class next month.Parents of children at Foothills Christian Middle School got a letter from the school over the weekend outlining their re-opening plan.According to the letter, the school will re-open September 8th.A local mom contacted 10News concerned about the plan. She didn't give her name because she doesn't want retaliation against her daughter. She was surprised at the September return date."If schools could be open, I would send her to school, if the county said we could do that, I would do that, but they're saying we can't go to school and we should be wearing masks," said the mom.According to the letter, there is a five step plan for reopening:*Regular COVID-19 self-check screening questions*Temperature readings prior to entering campus*Hand hygiene*Environmental Cleaning/Sanitization and Refillable Water Bottle Stations*Face masks/coveringsThe letter states that face coverings will not be required, but will be optional on campus. It goes on to list several reasons, including:*There is a lack of evidence that wearing a face mask prevents COVID-19 transmission in children*Children are not typically trained in their use and there is potential for increased risk of infection with improper mask use*Masks can be irritating and may lead to increased touching of face and eyes*It is impractical for a child to wear a mask properly for the duration of the school dayThe mom who contacted us says this will send mixed messages to her child."What we're telling her at home is completely different than, this is completely opposite of everything we're doing. So it's shocking to her, she's like why wouldn't I wear a mask," said the mom.The letter states wearing a mask will be the personal choice of students or faculty, but there may be some occasions where face coverings are required, like field trips."I wouldn't want her to wear a mask at school and be peer pressured not to, or be made fun of for wearing it," said the mom.As far as social distancing, the letter only states, "we will do our best to encourage physical distancing."The letter asks parents and their child to sign it, agreeing to the terms before returning to school.According to CA's governor, counties on the state's COVID-19 monitoring list cannot open schools for in-person instruction. EL CAJON (CNS) - The husband of a pregnant woman killed when her car struck a tree after being rear-ended by an alleged drunk driver in Ramona testified Tuesday that he saw the accident in his rear-view mirror.Christian Foderingham's testimony came as a preliminary hearing got underway for Andrew Milonis, charged with murder, DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the May 14 death of 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham, who was eight months pregnant.The victim's husband testified that his wife was following him in her own car on San Vincente Road on the way to her grandmother's house on Mother's Day when he heard a loud bang, saw an SUV swerve onto a sidewalk and saw his wife's 2016 Dodge Dart slam into a tree in the center median.RELATED: Judge raises bail to M in Ramona fatal hit and run"It felt like my heart stopped," he said. "I ran back to her car."Christian Foderingham, a U.S. Marine, said he cut off the seat belt holding his wife's lifeless body in place and pulled her out of the car. Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter were pronounced dead later at a hospital.The husband said the force of the accident made it look like someone had taken a sledgehammer to his wife's lower body.According to the California Highway Patrol, Milonis was heading east on San Vicente Road when his 2011 GMC Yukon pickup rear-ended the victim's car near Arena Drive about 6:45 p.m.Milonis fled following the collision, then abandoned his vehicle about a mile away and called for a Lyft driver to give him a ride to a bar on Main Street, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said. Deputies found him at the tavern about an hour later and arrested him.According to court testimony, Milonis was arrested for DUI six months before the fatal accident when he allegedly drove drunk and hit a fence.The preliminary hearing will continue Wednesday. When it's over, Judge John Thompson will decide whether enough evidence was presented to order Milonis to stand trial. The defendant faces 40 years to life in prison if convicted. 2067
