SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Former Major Leaguer Jacque Jones grew up in Southeast San Diego, and is giving back to the community. He has started an organization called "All Hands on Deck," and it's about grooming kids from his neighborhood for success, whether it's on the baseball field or in the classroom. Jones played 10 season's in the MLB but says his foundation was set during his days at San Diego High School."San Diego High turned out to be the right experience and the best experience for me to further my career in baseball," said Jones.But his major league dreams came long before he was a Caver, saying, "I knew at 5 years old I was going to be a big leaguer," he added.He went on to play at USC and was also a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and would play for four major league organizations in his career."Yes, we won a bronze medal, which I say was disappointing, but I'm blessed in the same token because not that many people can say they won an Olympic medal," Jones said, saying of his time in the MLB, "I enjoyed it and I played hard every day. I was very grateful that I was blessed to be able to play in the big leagues."Bringing him to his new venture."Percentages for African American players is down to about 4%, which was 38% at its height. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Houston’s former mayor Annise Parker met Monday with San Diego County mayors and leaders to discuss solutions for the homeless crisis.Parker said Houston decreased its homeless population by 60 percent in three years. She said her successes came from building out of the problem and spending more efficiently.San Diego City Councilman Chris Ward said Monday’s meeting is the first in a series to take advantage of cooperation between government agencies.Also in attendance were the Mayors of San Marcos, National City, Coronado, El Cajon, Encinitas, and Del Mar, and city council members from Carlsbad, Imperial Beach, and La Mesa. 658

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homeowners in Logan Heights say people are living in RVs parked on their street, leaving behind trash and at times, even dumping human waste. The piles of trash on Logan Avenue include bags, clothes, and paint or plastic food containers. Some of the RV trailers even have cobwebs. A city ordinance says cars are not allowed to park continuously on any public roadway for more than 72 hours. Homeowners say the vehicles are sometimes ticketed and moved for a few days before they come back. In June, the city opened a safe parking lot in Misison Valley for people living out of their RVs. Neighbors say the issue has been reported to the city's Get It Done app multiple times and they've even reached out to their council member, Vivian Moreno.10News reached out to Moreno's office, and a spokesperson said they've reported the issue to the San Diego Police Department. The spokesperson added that they would continue to report any complaints and violations to the appropriate authorities. 1017

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For decades Veterans Village of San Diego has been committed to serving homeless veterans, aiding in transitional housing and rehabilitation. In recent years, however, they've been struggling to fill vacant beds."Over the last several years, we've just seen a change in the environment. There's a lot of resources here in San Diego for homeless veterans. The number of veterans who've wanted to come through our programs has decreased," said Kim Mitchell, President and CEO of Veterans Village. "Some just aren't ready, as you know there's are a lot of homeless here in San Diego, not only veterans but non-veterans, people are in various stages of where they are in life."Now the nonprofit hopes to welcome non-veterans into two of their programs: County-funded Drug Medi-Cal and the transitional housing program. "There is a lot of people that want to get off the street and want to go through a program to get clean and sober, and so if we have beds in this program that can help them do that we want to do that," said Mitchell.Mitchell says they have full support from the Housing Commission and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.Leaders will ask City Council on Tuesday to approve the request. If approved, the nonprofit could serve non-veterans within weeks. 1297
