The stockpiling frenzy that occurred in the spring during the first wave of COVID-19 may rear its ugly head again.Research from Inmar Intelligence shows that 57% of shoppers are planning to rebuild their stockpile as worldwide coronavirus cases surge in what experts call a second wave.In the months following the pandemic's beginning, cleaning supplies and toilet paper disappeared from store shelves as quickly as they were stocked.According to Inmar, 64% of shoppers said they took part in the spring stockpiling.By far, toilet paper (67%) and hand sanitizer (57%) are on top of the list when it comes to products that shoppers plan to hoard should they find it necessary to create another stockpile.Inmar Intelligence says it is now the responsibility of retailers to make sure supply meets demand as communities once again face possible shutdowns in the face of rising COVID-19 cases."Today's shoppers still have concerns around safety, availability, and convenience, and will continue to look to their local retailers to deliver consistency and seamless customer service across all touchpoints," said Inmar Chairman and CEO David Mounts in a press release. The Senate has passed its long-stalled legislation that would overhaul how sexual harassment complaints are made and handled on Capitol Hill and would hold members of Congress personally responsible for paying such settlements out of their own pockets.The legislation moved forward following a deal reached by Missouri Republican Sen. Roy Blunt and Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and praised by leaders of both parties in the Senate.The bill now goes back to the House of Representatives, which passed its version in February and where the expectation is that there will be a conference committee to work out the differences between the two bills after Congress returns from its weeklong Memorial Day recess.The differences between the House's and Senate's versions of the legislation include the language used in describing when a member would be required to pay for settlements -- and when they would not -- and the reporting of settlements.California Republican Rep. The Transportation Security Administration says they found three times the rate of loaded guns at checkpoints in July than they did at the exact time last year, despite fewer passengers traveling due to the coronavirus pandemic.In a press release, the agency said that 80% of the firearms that come through a checkpoint are loaded. "It’s just an accident waiting to happen," TSA Administrator David Pekoske said in the release.TSA said they found 15.3 guns per million people screened last month, which is up from the rate of 5.1 guns per million people in July 2019.The agency says that's alarming because they screened 75% fewer travelers last month.“TSA is diligently working to ensure our employees and passengers are safe and secure while traveling during a pandemic, and yet we are noticing a significant increase in loaded firearms coming into checkpoints,” said Pekoske in the press release. “Travelers must understand that firearms are prohibited items at airports and in the passenger cabins of aircraft.
