SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspect wanted for breaking into an apartment in Imperial Beach and allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while she slept was in custody Thursday evening.Alfred Ruiz-Sandoval, 24, is accused of sneaking in through a window to fondle a woman in her home early the morning of Sept. 3 in the 1300 block of Hemlock Avenue, near Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, according to Lt. Chad Boudreau of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The victim called 911 about 5 a.m. to report the invasion and sexual battery and told investigators the suspect ran from her home when she awoke. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego businesswoman pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy, securities fraud and obstruction of justice charges for taking hundreds of millions of dollars in investor funds intended as loans for liquor licenses and funneling the money into her companies and for personal purchases.Gina Champion-Cain, founder and former CEO of American National Investments, was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission last summer with taking millions from investors and telling them the money would be used to support loans for people seeking California liquor licenses. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials announced Tuesday that students at three high schools in San Diego County have tested positive for mumps and may have exposed others to the contagious virus in the last two weeks.One person at each of the campuses -- High Tech High School International, La Jolla High School and San Pasqual High School -- tested positive for the virus, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, which did not specify whether the patients were students or staffers.Students and faculty at the three schools are being advised to be aware of possible mumps symptoms, which can include a fever, headache, earache and salivary gland inflammation.The exposures happened during normal school hours on Oct. 21-22 at High Tech High; Oct. 21-23, 25 and 28 at La Jolla High; and at San Pasqual High on Oct. 17-18 and 21-24.Symptoms can show between 12 and 25 days after exposure, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency."We are working closely with school officials to inform the school communities about the symptoms of mumps and vaccine recommendations," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Because there is no prevention after exposure for mumps, people should be watching for symptoms and make sure they have all the recommended doses of measles, mumps and rubella immunizations."County health officials have received reports of 47 mumps cases this year, the most in 25 years. Mumps cases statewide, nationwide and in Baja California are also outpacing the number of reported cases at this time last year.The viral disease is passed through coughing, sneezing or close contact. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver accused of running over and fatally injuring a co-worker, who was trying to prevent her from driving home following a night out in Kearny Mesa, was charged Tuesday with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death. Latisha Ingram, 33, is accused in the death last Thursday night of 25- year-old Ha Minh Ta.Deputy District Attorney Phillippa Cunningham said Ingram was charged with second-degree murder because she has a 2010 DUI conviction in Orange County.According to the prosecutor, Ingram and Ta met up with other co-workers for after-dinner drinks and the defendant, ``against the advice of friends,'' decided to try and drive home.RELATED: San Diego police: Man run over, killed after argument in Kearny Mesa parking lotIngram got into an argument with Ta about 11:30 p.m. in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Convoy Street, and she allegedly started to drive away while he was still holding onto her car. Thursday's normally scheduled collection will occur on Friday, and Friday's collection will occur on Saturday. Residents in other cities should check with their waste hauler for holiday service schedules.The Miramar Landfill will be closed Thursday.Torrey Pines, Mission Bay and Balboa Park golf courses will be open until 3 p.m. Holiday rates will apply.
