It's that time of year again: 68 college basketball teams earn bids for the NCAA March Madness tournament. And Berkshire Hathaway employees are given a challenge by their boss. The company's CEO, Warren Buffett, promised million a year for life to the Berkshire employee who picks a perfect bracket through the NCAA tournament's Sweet 16.And Buffett will sweeten the pot if a team from his home state of Nebraska clinches the national title, he announced last month."If either Creighton or Nebraska ends up winning the tournament, we're going to double the prize. So instead of being million, it's gonna be million," he said on CNBC.The odds of winning either are astronomically high. But Berkshire employees don't need perfection to win some money. Buffett gives out 0,000 to the employee who's bracket stays intact the longest.Last year, a West Virginia factory worker won 0,000 for picking 31 of the tournament's first 32 games.Buffett held his first bracket competition in 2014. The inaugural contest, which was open to the public, offered a grand prize of billion for anyone who could correctly pick the winners of all the games. No one won. 1206

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Tyson Kirkpatrick's family is one of the first to own a home in Main Ranch - a planned development on the northeast end of El Cajon. They bought their brand new single-family home for a price in the low 500-thousands. That was about 0,000 less than the similar properties they were looking for over at Santee Lakes. "It was more of our price point," Kirkpatrick said. "It makes me feel great. It makes me feel very fortunate to be here."Main Ranch will ultimately grow to more than 130 new homes.Complete Coverage: Life in El CajonIn the last two years, El Cajon has seen as many as 850 new housing units get built. Prices for single family homes in the city are as much as 20 percent below the median for the county, which CoreLogic says was 0,000 in October. "We made a calculated decision that we wanted to be more competitive in this market," said El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells.Wells said the city has taken three key steps to attract builders. First, it eliminated developer impact fees which pay for important infrastructure related to the growth. The City of San Diego, for instance, charges as much as ,000 per unit. In El Cajon, the city instead relies on its general fund, boosted by a half-cent sales tax that expires in 2029, an issue now being studied at City Hall. Last April, the City Council hired a consulting firm to explore adding fees to developments, but Wells said he does not expect that to happen or any financial headwinds. "We're careful about how we spend our money, and we make sure we have to have enough money to take care of it," said Wells. The city also changed its zoning to allow developers who meet certain requirements to build without a public hearing. That reduces chances for opposition and costly delay. Finally, El Cajon has taken a more customer-service approach to interacting with developers whether for permitting at city hall or inspections on site. "In the City of El Cajon, it's tough but fair, and they give you a chance to alleviate some of their concerns on the spot," said Dan Scott, the construction superintendent at Main Ranch. In all, Wells says El Cajon is a great place to raise a family. He says adding housing that's affordable is a key way the city can encourage people to come see that for themselves. 2302

Michelle Obama's new book "Becoming" has sold more than 1.4 million copies in all formats during the first seven days since it hit shelves on November 13.The former first lady's memoir about her Chicago roots and her time in the White House is also popular overseas, where it's a bestseller in Europe and Scandinavia and the No. 1 adult nonfiction title in the U.K., according to publisher Penguin Random House, which announced the milestone on Wednesday. After five printings of the hardcover edition, there will be 3 million copies in print in the Canada and the U.S., the publisher said. This feat follows another milestone earlier in the week, when Barnes & Noble announced that "Becoming" gave the bookseller "the biggest first-week sales of any book this year."Until November, that title belonged to Bob Woodward's Trump administration dissection, "Fear," which came out in September. But "Becoming" had even stronger sales in its first week, the bookseller said.Beyond just this year, B&N said "Becoming" had "the best first-week sales of an adult book since 'Go Set a Watchman' published in July, 2015."It has been nearly two years since the Obamas left the White House, but there is still intense interest in the former president and first lady."Becoming" remains No. 1 on the online lists kept by both the Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites. Her book landed in Amazon's No. 1 spot on Friday, November 9, and has not budged since.A gauntlet of TV interviews, including all three network morning shows, surely helped sales. The interviews will continue later this month. On Friday, November 30, she will be on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.""Becoming" is almost certain to rank No. 1 on the New York Times best selling books list, which comes out later on Wednesday. All the interest in the title — plus her nationwide arena tour — has stoked new speculation about her political prospects. Is there any chance she'd run for political office?"Let me be very clear, it will never happen," Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett told Alisyn Camerota on "New Day" Monday morning. As for Obama's husband, he is working on finishing his own memoir. Both books were acquired by Penguin Random House in a bidding war back in early 2017."Writing's hard," Barack Obama said at his foundation's annual summit on Monday. "I'm just sitting there, I type two words... delete."His remarks about the difficulties of writing were reported by The Atlantic. He reportedly told people to go buy his wife's book. 2531
