(KGTV) - At least five people died Friday afternoon in a fiery crash on Interstate 10 in the San Bernardino County community of Rialto, KABC reported.The California Highway Patrol indicated at least three vehicles and two trucks were involved in the crash that left wreckage on both sides of the freeway at Riverside Ave. about 1 p.m.A big rig heading west veered toward the median, crashed through the center divider and burst into flames, KTLA reported. The truck kept moving across eastbound lanes, striking several vehicles.Five people were killed. The House also overwhelmingly passed legislation back in June the first time around to address this issue.”Democratic strategist Brandon Neal agrees, saying the issue of opioids is a bipartisan issue affecting everyone.On average, a person dies from an opioid overdose every eight minutes, according to the CDC.“Right now, we're in a point in our society where every average person, everyday person, is affected by this,” Neal says. “So, one pill kills.”The impact of the problem is so big, it forced both political parties to come together to pass a bill that will boost programs to treat addictions, keep a closer eye on prescriptions and promote research to find new drugs that are not as addictive.“I think the next step is to start enacting some of the changes this legislation offered, because in a lot of ways, this was a comprehensive bill, but we need to see what's going to be most effective and what works,” Bartlett says.Just this week, there was a small glimmer of hope. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Dozens of sailors are set to return to North Island Sunday morning following a months-long deployment.Six helicopters and 40 to 50 pilots, aircrew and maintainers from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6 will arrive at the Naval Air Station North Island after a six-month deployment.The squadron is part of the San Diego-based Third Fleet and supports aircraft carrier operations with the Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf and Seventh Fleet in Japan.Also returning this week in the USS Theodore Roosevelt which will arrive Monday.The aircraft carrier departed in October and made port calls in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore and the Philippines.   696

Conditions at the border are getting worse as desperate migrants wait for asylum. Many have given up hope in their desperate hour. The shelter where migrants are staying is packed to the brim. It’s said to be completely full and actually three times above capacity. Conditions are getting worse as officials with the state’s special committee on migration issues say city and state officials are even looking for a second shelter, but no local businesses are willing to rent out their facilities for the migrants. People at the shelter have reported deteriorating conditions including open sewage drains. The Mexican Navy has set up small kitchens and the Red Cross is providing medical care.
