The racial justice movement is inspiring hope and change.Two of the oldest hate fighting and civil rights nonprofits are joining forces to build ties between Black and Jewish people.“You can’t really fight one kind of hate unless you're going to fight all of them, right, so we can’t be saying anti-Semitism is bad and not be engaged right now in this great movement to challenge systemic racism,” said Shira Goodman with Anti-Defamation League Philadelphia.The Anti-Defamation League and National Urban League are kicking off the partnership in Philadelphia.They're starting a voting rights project trying to energize young voters.They're using young leaders from both groups to recruit younger poll workers and produce mailers and social media videos encouraging people to exercise one of the greatest tools to change.“We want to be able to give people accurate information and also hold each other accountable by having a voting plan, maybe having a buddy they are going to text back and forth, ‘did you go to the polls did you request your ballot?’”Philadelphia is just the start of this partnership for equality. They're looking at future projects to promote economic empowerment, equal access to justice, update hate crime laws and address discrimination in housing and employment.“It’s building on our shared histories as Blacks and Jews of having worked together, having both struggled in America and also saying we want to not sit on that history, we want to build a new future together,” said Goodman.The partnership and focus come at critical time for minorities which tend to face more voter suppression. 1624

The White House said late Friday it is prepared to veto a bill proposed by House Democrats to infuse the cash-strapped Postal Service with funds.The White House’s announcement comes a week after President Donald Trump said he supported funding the Postal Service with Congressional funds. Last week marked a period of the Postal Service removing machines and collection boxes, as mail service has slowed for many across the country.The bill introduced by House Democrats would, in addition to providing funds, require the post office to maintain its current level of service, not close any locations and would lift a prohibition of overtime. Those measures would be in effect through at least the end of the year.According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill would provide an estimated billion in funding for the post office.The White House pushed back in a policy memo, claiming that reports of slowdowns are an “overreaction.”“This bill misses an opportunity to improve USPS,” the White House said.“USPS does not need a billion bailout. It needs reforms that will return it to a trend of long- term financial self-sufficiency,” the White House added.The Trump administration said that USPS has enough funds to operate through August 2021. But during his Senate testimony on Friday, Postmaster Louis DeJoy said that the post office is losing billion on an annual basis.“Without change our losses will only increase in the years to come,” DeJoy said.The USPS has historically been self-sufficient. But declining volume and increased pension costs have cut into the service’s bottom line. But the post office remains a lifeline for many who rely on mail for medicines, important documents, and other supplies. 1736

The United States Air Force swore-in its first Black chief of staff on Thursday.Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett administered the oath of office to Gen. Charles Q. The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced Salt Lake City will be its choice in a bid for the Winter Games in 2030 or beyond."We won!" Governor Gary Herbert cheered, holding hands in victory with Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, Council Chairwoman Erin Mendenhall and others."This has been the culmination of a significant team effort, starting with the support of the public," the governor added.The announcement came following a meeting by the U.S. Olympic Committee in San Francisco on Friday. Salt Lake City was competing with Denver for the nomination.The International Olympic Committee is expected to pick the next host cities for future Games in 2023.Salt Lake City has argued it is uniquely situated to host another Olympics. We have unanimity with our public officials that have lined up behind this effort," said Jeff Robbins, the president of the Utah Sports Commission.The cost to host an Olympics would also be cheaper than other cities. It would cost about .4 billion, but boosters insist it would not cost any state or local tax dollars. The woman involved in the domestic violence charge against NFL linebacker Reuben Foster said the Washington Redskins' decision to pick him up just days after his arrest felt like "a slap in the face.""I just couldn't believe somebody picked him up in less than -- how many hours?" Foster's ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, said Thursday on ABC's Good Morning America, or GMA. "Like, I was shocked."The interview came more than a week after Foster, 24, then a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence in Tampa, Florida. Ennis, 28, reported that Foster pushed and slapped her during an encounter on November 24 at a hotel, police said.Ennis' attorney, Adante Pointer, released photos of Ennis' injuries after the assault."After having endured this relationship and then watching her name be tarnished in the press and then watching this person, from her perspective, go unpunished, she wanted to make sure that her side of the story got out," Pointer said.Ennis told GMA it was the third time an incident like this one had happened, including a February case in Los Gatos, California, that resulted in a criminal charge against Foster that was later dismissed and another occasion in October when "neighbors called the police."CNN reached out Thursday to Foster for comment.
