From 2000 through 2018, 459 children have died from accidental furniture tip overs, which are preventable fatalities that can be stopped by anchoring furniture to a wall.In response, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission is launching a public service announcement campaign called "Even When You're Watching.” The campaign will show the dangers of leaving furniture unanchored. The campaign includes “terrifying” footage of tip overs caught on video. In addition to the number of fatalities, the CPSC estimates that every 43 minutes, a child is injured by furniture tipping over."Even when adults are in the same room with children, dangerous tip-overs can occur," said CPSC acting chairman Robert Adler. "Many parents and caregivers do not know about this hidden hazard, or believe that they can prevent a tip-over by watching their children, but these incidents still happen. We urge adults to Anchor It! and to tell their friends and family to do so, too, because these tragic tip-overs can happen in the blink of an eye."According to a CPSC survey, 80 percent are aware that furniture can tip over, but just 47 percent say they have their TV anchors, and 55 percent say they have anchored furniture in their home. The CSPC offers parents the following tips:To protect children from a tip-over incident, follow these safety tips in any home where children live or visit:Anchor TVs and furniture, such as bookcases and dressers, securely to the wall.Always place TVs on a sturdy, low base, and push the TV back as far as possible, particularly if anchoring is not possible.Avoid displaying or storing items, such as toys and remotes, in places where kids might be tempted to climb up to reach for them.Store heavier items on lower shelves, or in lower drawers. If purchasing a new TV, consider recycling older ones not currently in use. If moving the older TV to another room, be sure it is anchored to the wall properly.Keep TV and/or cable cords out of reach of children.Supervise children in rooms where these safety tips have not been undertaken. To view the public service announcement, click here. 2112

GREENCASTLE, Indiana — Protesters at DePauw University in Indiana interrupted a press conference meant to discuss recent racist writings on and near campus, one day after students demonstrated at an on-campus event led by actress Jenna Fischer. After five incidents of racial slurs were written across campus in the last two weeks, protesters interrupted actress Jenna Fischer's talk Tuesday night. On Wednesday, university officials held a press conference to discuss the incidents and Tuesday's protest. About 10 minutes into the press conference Wednesday, DePauw President Mark McCoy learned about protesters outside the doors, wanting inside. McCoy and the other officials allowed the protesters inside, where they chanted, "Meet our demands. We are not safe." For about 20 more minutes, McCoy and the group discussed the incidents, and what the university is doing to stop future incidents from happening. "We are all together addressing every issue that has happened on this campus," McCoy said. "We are committed to addressing these issues. DePauw has made so many efforts to address this and has still fallen short."McCoy eventually became visibly frustrated by the interruptions from the crowd.Fischer was on DePauw's campus to promote her book, "The Actor's Life: A Survival Guide."Watch the full press conference, protest and discussion in the video below. Game after game, LeBron James carried the Cavs against the Indiana Pacers, and the people at "Saturday Night Live" noticed.Boy, did they notice. In a skit that went unaired, "SNL" poked fun at "The Other Cavaliers" who will do anything for their fearless leader as long as it doesn't involve defense or scoring any points. Anything? Yep. From giving LeBron a high-five to holding his several cell phones, his teammates are always there when he needs them, unless it's for something important. In the show's defense, the sketch was probably written early in the week, before the Cavs went up 3-0 against the Raptors.  642

Here in the U.S., states are handling vaccine distribution in different ways. Most are going with health care workers in direct contact with COVID-19 patients first, but plans could change.“So, we need to set realistic expectations that there will be guidance that's different in different states. The guidance will evolve as we get more and more vaccines. And that doesn't mean anything's wrong or we've changed our minds, it’s just the way it's going to roll out,” said Stacy Hall, Director of Louisiana’s Public Health Immunization Program.Louisiana plans to let its hospitals and EMS distribute the first doses to their staffs. It’s a strategy not just to protect the valuable workers, but to hopefully get the public on board.“I'm really eager for them as the first group to really learn the science about the vaccine and step up and be vaccinated. I think that'll set our whole campaign in Louisiana and nationally on the right track,” said Hall.As for the cold storage of the vaccine, Louisiana doesn't see it as overly challenging. They also plan to use the state immunization information system to track who needs second doses and where the vaccine is being used most.“I want us to keep going back to that. There will be challenges and issues, but what a wonderful opportunity to make a change in the trajectory of the pandemic,” said Hall. The reality is, it will be months before the general public will get the vaccine at a pharmacy or drive thru. 1464

Home listings in more cities will no longer use the word "master" to describe large bedrooms and bathrooms. In June, the Houston Association of Realtors decided to instead use the word “primary” to describe the largest bedroom or bathroom in a home listing. The association, HAR for short, updated listings on the website through mid-June. In a statement, the organization said the change has been “raised and considered for many years” and was one of nine requests submitted from HAR members for discussion at recent meetings about updating MLS listings. Other requests included things like electric vehicle charging stations and balcony details.“The overarching message was that some members were concerned about how the terms might be perceived by some other agents and consumers. Based on the discussion that took place, more members viewed the terms as sexist than racist, although some did view them as racist,” the statement said. “The origin of the terms is debated, and we are not saying they are rooted in slavery.”The word “master” is not banned within the organization and members, only in their online listings. Realtors may choose to use “master” on their own materials selling a home.HAR told members the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has already advised that use of the term “master bedroom” or “master bathroom” is not discriminatory and does not violate Fair Housing laws. Some builders have already dropped the term years ago, HAR said. According to the Houston Chronicle, at least one builder in Texas now calls a home's primary bedroom an "owner's retreat." Other builders have also made the change in the last few years, choosing different words to describe the larger rooms in the homes they design. 1755
