MILWAUKEE — Surveillance video captured two porch pirates on a casual morning stroll. But what they don't know is that the owner of the package they're about to steal actually wants it to get taken. "Usually I get very mad when I see the package get stolen, but now this one I was like proud to show the video," said Jamie, who left a package of sweet revenge on her Milwaukee porch.Out of fear of retaliation, Jamie asked that her identity be concealed and to only use her first name. She says they've had about eight packages stolen from their front porch and have tried everything to fight back. They installed security cameras, asked for signed deliveries and even had items placed behind a fence. But somehow the thieves continued to be successful. Eventually, they decided to have everything delivered to work, but after a gift sent to her a month ago was stolen as well, she decided that was enough. "That's when we ordered the next package," she said. "We went on to a website that does anonymous deliveries and you can pick from all sorts of different fecal matter. The cheapest one is cow, we decided to go in full blast and we chose gorilla." The thieves didn't like what they had scooped up, and ended up tossing the item into a neighbor's yard. But they aren't the only thieves she's caught on camera. Video also shows a woman stealing that gift someone sent Jamie, that contained memorial stickers honoring her late father. "She threw it because it wasn't anything important to her but to me that was the most important package that had been taken off our porch," said Jamie. A neighbor ended up finding the discarded stickers in a nearby park. Jamie says she's tried to report the thefts to police, but she's been told it's a lost cause and the chances of catching these criminals are slim. So she hopes a little package payback will prevent thefts in the future. "We do live in a nice neighborhood," she said. "It's a nice a street, they're nice neighbors, we just don't know why it keeps happening to us."  2106

The Wasatch Mountain Range rises up across Utah Lake.“The right way to take care of cows is to make them happy and comfortable,” said Brad Bateman.Bateman has worked the farm since he was a small boy alongside his family.“There was no hanging out or having fun here; it was all work,” he said with a chuckle. “Our family developed the farm ground and broke a lot of this ground out of sagebrush.”Today, there are more than 20,000 head of dairy cows and feeding them can be a tall order.However, sometimes life can present a unique opportunity for growth.“We want to welcome you to the first-ever controlled environment indoor farm for animal feed,” said Steve Lindsley, president of Grov Technologies.Call it a marriage between farming and technology, with an eco-friendlier “hoof print.”“We call the machine, Olympus, Lindsley said, pointing to the large tower stretching nearly to the roof of the building.“Each of these machines will replace 35 to 50 acres of land.”Lindsley said to grow the cow feed indoors with Olympus only takes five percent of the water of traditional farming.“The seeds are planted on a tray, and within about five to six days, we come out with a beautiful harvest,” Lindsley said.Lindsley’s background is in tech but he envisions towers like Olympus helping anywhere rainwater is scarce.“There are so many challenges with water,” Lindsley explained. “You just think about the West, you think about California, the panhandle of Texas. There are so many places that could benefit from this technology.”For the Bateman farm, this year the weather wasn’t so much of an issue, it was COVID-19. The virus disrupted supply lines all over the world and put farms like the Batemans in danger of running out of feed.“We just couldn’t get into places to get the animal feed,” Bateman explained. “Places like Washington state, they wouldn’t even let our trucks in.”Bateman said the timing of the partnership couldn’t have been better.“The cows love this stuff,” he said with a smile. “This is like cow candy for them.”Now, Bateman sleeps a bit better at night knowing his cows will get fed regardless of the weather or a worldwide pandemic.“This whole thing has really brought home the importance of having a fresh, local supply of feed,” Bateman said. “This is a really big thing for us and feeling secure about our future.” 2488

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A mother of three shown in a video being detained by Customs and Border Protection agents was released Tuesday on her own recognizance.Shortly after 9 p.m. Perla Morales-Luna and her daughters shared a tearful reunion. A judge said that Morales-Luna, 36, isn’t a danger to society or a flight risk. During the family's reunion, she did say "Thank you" to the press but had no further comment. The video showing Luna’s detention made rounds on social media earlier in March. MILWAUKEE — What was supposed to be a girls trip to Atlanta with a Milwaukee mother and her five daughters turned into a nightmare for the Wenszell family. A man they never met was in the station as they waited for a train to arrive. “This man, agitated, talking to himself mumbling and next thing we know, ran over and pushed my wife she ended up falling onto the track,” said Jerry Wenszell, the husband and father of the family. After Susan Wenszell was pushed her daughter jumped onto the tracks and covered her mother with her body. But that left Katie Wenszell to take the brunt of the train. “Katie jumped down, tried to move Sue off the tracks and just got her in between the tracks and the train literally went over both of the top of them,” Jerry said. The train missed Susan. Katie was hit and dragged. She lost part of her foot, her shoulder was shattered, she punctured a lung and broke most of the bones in her face. “Most said had Katie not jumped down, Sue would have come home in a box,” Jerry said. The man who pushed Susan is now facing charges. But Jerry isn’t angry and relies on his faith. “No, actually I'm not. I actually prayed for the guy,” he said. Katie is now in critical condition after the incident in Atlanta over the weekend. She faces a long road to recovery, including the potential for more surgeries. Jerry says he’s had to stay in Milwaukee to take care of the family’s young children. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help raise money for Katie's medical expenses.  1595

More transgender and gender-nonconforming people have been killed this year than any other year prior since data has been tracked.According to the Human Rights Campaign, which has been tracking the deaths since 2013, at least 33 trans or gender non-conforming people have been killed in the United States in 2020.“There’s a loud minority of folks who feel it is their place to punish people who have different beliefs than they do,” said Tori Cooper, a transgender woman herself who works with the HRC. “It is difficult to sometimes articulate how each death feels, like a little part of your spirit is being taken away.”Cooper says as LGBTQ issues get more exposure, more risk is taken on by the community. She also says each year the reporting gets more accurate, which could be why the trend has gone the way it has.“There [are] so many things that you find in common; so many commonalities with these people who have been murdered that it feels each time a little closer to home,” said Cooper.For Cooper, that feeling was never more pronounced than after 33-year old Felycya Harris, another trans woman, was killed on October 8 by a man she was in a romantic relationship with. Both live in Georgia, and both can identify with the fact that most of these deaths have come at the hands of those closest to the victim.“When someone says something under their breath you have to think to yourself is this person going to kill me,” said Cooper. “That may sound, to folks outside the community, hyperbolic, but the truth is it isn’t.”Cooper says the way forward is in education, empathy, and working through any discomfort about transgender issues that may be different than our own.“If folks who in our same social circles are killing us, then if we can’t trust people who we know then who is it that we can trust,” said Cooper.She says only then can we work towards reversing a trend that has Cooper and others apprehensive about something inherent to all of us: connection.“Provide folks with the love, support, and encouragement that we, as trans people, need because that provides a modicum of safety,” she said. 2124
